1.1 INTRODUCTION
Micro Enterprise Support Programme Trust (MESPT) is a development organization established in 2002 by the government of Kenya and the European Union. In 2007, the EU bequeathed its founder’s rights and status to DANIDA.
The Trust aims to support the growth of micro, small and medium enterprises by providing integrated business solutions for sustainable development. MESPT implements its mandate through two key segments: Value chain & enterprise development (VC&ED) and financial services (FS). VC&ED have largely focussed on value chain and market systems development, while FS has been geared towards wholesale lending and capacity building of financial intermediaries with a focus on creating financial inclusion in targeted excluded enterprises.
Key workstreams involve building the capacity of value chain stakeholders, increasing agricultural productivity and food safety systems, and facilitating market linkages and access to finance. MESPT promotes the uptake of green interventions and services that contribute to a greener economy and advocates for an enabling environment in the food safety sub-sector in Kenya. The organization is anchored on five (5) thematic areas namely:
1. Promoting agricultural productivity & food safety
