Assistant Professor of Pathology

 

RANK/TITLE: 

Assistant Professor of Pathology (tenure stream) (2-5 years of experience)

 

DEPARTMENT/DIVISION:

University of Pittsburgh in the Division of Experimental Pathology, Department of Pathology, the Pittsburgh Liver Institute (PLI), and the University of Pittsburgh Drug Discovery Institute (UPDDI), and the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.  The successful candidate will lead an independent research program in spatial biology and microphysiology systems with focus on the liver and other organs.

 

DESCRIPTION OF WORK:

The position will be responsible to participation in seminars, professional development opportunities, manuscript preparation and publication, and presentations at scientific meetings. The candidate will perform services within the Division of Experimental Pathology in the Department of Pathology, PLI, and UPDDI studying the growth and development of various cell types including those derived from human induced pluripotent stem cells in various MPS and tissue formats. He/she will also be responsible for using innovative multiplex imaging for assessing protein expression in tissues and MPS with a focus on spatial biology related investigations. Knowledge and extensive experience in mouse and human tissue and biology is critical. Knowledge of signaling pathways, imaging techniques, and computational biology is critical for this position. The UPDDI, PLI, and Division of Experimental Pathology are highly active in research, emphasize collaborative efforts, and provide support to allow investigators a strong foundation for launching and advancing a competitive investigative career in biomedical research. Candidates must have a Ph.D. Degree or equivalent in spatial biology and microphysiology systems with focus on the liver and other organs.

The candidate will be responsible for other assignments related to scientific development (e.g. writing grants, manuscripts, reviews and supervising/teaching other fellows).

 

JOB DUTIES:

The applicant is expected to possess or to develop a dynamic, extramurally funded research program in the area identified above. Candidates must have a Ph.D. Degree or equivalent in spatial biology and microphysiology systems with focus on the liver and other organs.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

1.     PhD degree or equivalent in spatial biology and microphysiology systems with focus on the liver and other organs.

2.     Training in imaging, computational biology, spatial biology, and MPS.

3.     Work Experience of at least 2-5 years conducting independent experiments, data analysis and interpretation, writing skills and leadership in a collaborative environment.

4.     Excellent communication skills and the ability to teach at the graduate and postgraduate levels are highly desirable. 

 

SALARY AND BENEFITS:

Salary will be commensurate with experience.
