The Highlights
Reporting to the Director for Catholic Campus Ministry (CCM), the Faith and Justice Coordinator provides programs for students that integrate faith with social and environmental justice issues, using the framework of Catholic Social Teaching in a Vincentian context.
The Coordinator will plan, implement, and evaluate the fall Laudato Sí retreat and the Community Night program, a weekly event that engages topics of social and environmental justice, the Catholic Tradition, and the Vincentian charism. The Coordinator will jointly oversee operations of the Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish Sandwich Kitchen in conjunction with the parish staff liaison. The Coordinator will also assist the Director in managing the Catholic Living Learning Community, a scholarship program and cohort of ten students who live, learn, and practice their faith as a community.
What You’ll Do

  • Your job is to develop, implement, and assess student programs related to faith and social justice, including the Laudato Sí retreat, the Community Night program, and the Catholic Living Learning Community.
  • You know how to supervise, mentor, form, and empower student teams and leaders. This includes supervising student employees: the graduate student Sandwich Kitchen Coordinator (in conjunction with the parish staff liaison), Laudato Sí retreat leader, the student coordinator for social and environmental justice and advocacy, and the student coordinator for Catholic and community events.
  • We are interested in people who thrive in a team environment and will excel in collective visioning, shared implementation of initiatives, and evaluation of the effectiveness of our Catholic Campus Ministry programs and events.
  • A successful candidate will have an aptitude and passion for collaboration and convening internal and external partners for the work of social and environmental justice. Such partnerships include the Vincentian Service and Formation Office, Just DePaul, St. Vincent de Paul Parish, faculty and staff, and various external partners in the city and Archdiocese of Chicago.
  • We are interested in people who are passionate about the intersection of faith and social justice and can effectively raise awareness of social justice issues through creative means such as social media campaigns, tabling in the Student Center, and other initiatives.

What You’ll Need

  • A bachelor’s degree in Theology, Ministry, Justice and Peace Studies, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • You are well-versed in Catholic Social Teaching and have a passion for the intersection of faith and social justice.
  • A minimum of two years working in a ministerial field, preferably with young adults.

  • The ability to mentor, empower, and inspire college students to engage their faith and issues of social and environmental justice.
  • Excellent skills in program management, supervision, and overseeing the successful execution of events.
  • Enthusiasm and aptitude for working in a religiously diverse community.
