Exciting opportunity for a qualified or near-qualified Practitioner who is experienced in providing Family Dispute Resolution & General Mediation services to join our team of highly skilled Practitioners.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

We are seeking applications from people that are either fully qualified as family dispute resolution practitioner or are currently studying FDR and therefore well on their way to qualifying.

As a Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner will Interrelate you will be providing a range of high quality, child-focused interventions to families post separation who are experiencing various levels of conflict and need support reaching agreements in relation to their children and/or the distribution of property. The role includes intake, risk assessment, case management, and the provision of interventions including mediation and child inclusive practice under the jurisdiction of the Family Law Act.

The role may also see you providing a range of high quality general mediation services to Interrelate clients as required. These may include, but not be limited to any of the following situations in which clients seek assistance with managing the process of dispute and conflict resolution: workplace mediation, elder mediation, school-based or parent/child mediation. The role involves supporting clients to identify issues, develop options and consider alternatives, and make decisions about outcomes.

Key Duties include:

  • Provide family dispute resolution and general mediation services
  • Facilitate groups, seminars and workshops
  • Conduct intake assessments, develop case plans and parenting agreements
  • Facilitate effective referral and promotion of services
  • Participate in program and service evaluations

To meet the requirements for a qualified position you are required to hold a Graduate Diploma in Family Dispute Resolution, and current or imminent accreditation as a Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner with the Attorney General’s Department.

To meet the requirements for a trainee position, you are required to hold current enrolment in an approved dispute resolution/mediation/conciliation course that leads to qualification as a registered Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner and accreditation with the Attorney General Department.

As a Trainee you will be provided with on the job training, coaching and mentoring to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to be a qualified Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner and General Mediator.

In addition to the key requirements we are also looking for FDRP’s with great people skills who can work with couples on resolving issues by generating flexible and practical options.

This role will based at our Caringbah Office, working 30 hours per week, with the flexibility to negotiate your working days and hours. However, you will need to have availability work Tuesday evenings until 8pm.

The terms and conditions of employment will be dependent on the experience of the successful candidates and will be discussed during the selection process.

SELECTION CRITERIA:

QUALIFIED FDR ROLE REQUIREMENTS:

Compulsory:

  • Graduate Diploma in Family Dispute Resolution, and current or imminent accreditation as a Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner with the Attorney General’s Department

Highly Desirable:

  • It is highly desirable that you also hold a Bachelor degree in psychology, social work, or related discipline; or, a Graduate Diploma in counselling, community service or equivalent on top of another Bachelor degree.

Required:

Demonstrated experience and skills in:

  • delivering dispute resolution, family law and/ or mediation services with families and children
  • casework with clients; implementing and supporting case plans
  • facilitating groups, seminars and workshops
  • working within a Family Law context
  • solutions focused and interpersonal communication skills
  • report writing, case notes, data collection and data entry
  • working with online systems and technology, such as a CRM (Client Relationship Management) System and Zoom

Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of:

  • the process and purpose of child inclusive mediation practice
  • the issues facing diverse communities, including ATSI, CALD and remote communities
  • the impact of family separation and breakdown on children, and having skills in managing high parental conflict whilst upholding the best interests of children
  • child development, child protection, mandatory reporting, suicide prevention/intervention and family violence issues
  • community services, especially those relating to families experiencing relationship difficulties
  • the Family Law Act and other relevant legislation, such as the Children and Young Persons (Care and Protection) Act and domestic violence legislation

TRAINEE FDR ROLE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Enrolment in an approved dispute resolution/mediation/conciliation course that leads to qualification as a registered Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner and accreditation with the Attorney General Department.

Highly Desirable:

  • It is highly desirable that you hold a Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work or related discipline; or a Graduate Diploma in counselling, community service or equivalent, on top of another Bachelor degree, OR working towards such qualification.

Required:

Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of:

  • the issues facing diverse communities, including ATSI, CALD and remote communities

Demonstrated experience and skills in:

  • interpersonal communication and written skills
  • administration and organisation skills
  • working with online systems and technology
