ROLE of the POSITION

The Family Engagement Coordinator works collaboratively with the Director for New Student Orientation, Transition & Family Programs to plan, implement, oversee and evaluate comprehensive programs and initiatives designed to engage family members of UNLV students.?

The Family Engagement Coordinator maintains a high level of internal and external public contact, serving as liaison between the New Student Orientation, Transition Family Programs, the UNLV Division of Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement, various academic units, and other organizations within and outside of the University. This position will partner with the Director for New Student Orientation, Transition & Family Programs in cultivating continued engagement of family members throughout the student recruitment funnel, from the point of admission through graduation. This position will run various engagement platforms including Family Facebook group, Family blog, family newsletters and email campaigns. This position will recruit, train and run a Family Engagement Board of Directors. The Family Engagement Coordinator will also play a primary role in coordinating and supporting all appropriate family programs events and will assist with orientation, transition events and first year experience initiatives in partnership with campus partners.

The incumbent will demonstrate the ability to work independently within established goals and general directives under the supervision of the Director for New Student Orientation, Transition & Family Programs. This position will be expected to carry out special initiatives as assigned. The Family Coordinator will be expected to travel both in and out of state and work irregular hours and some weekends.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and 3-5 Years of Experience as it relates to student/family engagement, recruitment/retention and customer service and 1-3 Years of Supervisory Experience. Credentials must be obtained prior to the start date.

Knowledge

  • Coordinate, maintain and evaluate programs and initiatives that aid in the engagement of family members who are supporting their student throughout the recruitment funnel, first year experience and beyond to graduation
  • Design and implement programs and initiatives with other University constituents that directly assist families of students as they initially enroll at the University.
  • Collaborate with campus partners to be mutually supportive of orientation, transition, and first year experience programs. Establish productive, collegial relationships at all levels with staff, faculty, and administration both on and off-campus.
  • Assesses program efforts and conduct research for program benchmarks and improvement opportunities; must have strong ability to collect, analyze and evaluate program data.
  • Knowledge of higher education current issues, specifically family programs related trends.
  • Develop and demonstrate a multicultural awareness and contribute to cultivating an inclusive, diverse and respectful University community. Demonstrate civil and inclusive behavior when interacting with staff, faculty, students, family members and visitors.
  • Ordering, inventory, and maintenance of all items used for family programs.
  • Manage appropriate collection and deposit of cash funds for ticketed events (i.e. Family Weekend and Family Orientation).
  • Perform related departmental duties to support admissions and recruitment initiatives, as required.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a group. General skills include the ability to multi-task, which is essential. Strong interpersonal and public speaking skills.
  • Serve as a member of campus-wide, divisional, and departmental committees and task forces as appropriate.
  • Ability to anticipate issues and the consequences of decisions/actions.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Awareness and compliance of Nevada and Board of Regents policies.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).
  • Preferable experience with direct undergraduate student/family engagement for a regionally accredited public or private 4-yr R-1 institution.
  • Experience working with Family Programs at University/College
