About the role
We have an exciting opportunity for a Family Safety Counsellor (Partner Contact Worker) to join our growing Family Violence Programs team. This role will provide safety assessment, referral, case work, group work and therapeutic / counselling support to women partners of men who use violence in the home. The position may also provide information and secondary consultation to staff of Relationship Matters, and external prescribed organisations.
Responsibilities will include:
Provision of safety assessment, direct support, referral, and case management for women partners and the children, of men who use family violence against women and children; provision of therapeutic and group work interventions; and may also include participation in family consultation and case planning.
About you
A professional in your field, you will have a clear understanding of the feminist framework and how male privilege impacts on our current social structures. You must be able to work independently, while still contributing to a cohesive, committed and high performing team. Together with your exceptional level of ethical standards and well-developed interpersonal communication skills, you will have the capacity to work to high standards of practice. Previous experience working in a family violence services system would be highly regarded.
You must be able to demonstrate the following:
- Tertiary qualified in Social Work or a Behavioural / Social Science and / or postgraduate studies in family violence, and / or a minimum of 2 years’ experience.
- Experience in counselling and assessment.
- Be recognised as a Family Safety Counsellor within the FSV MBCP minimum standards.
- Have a deep understanding of the men’s behaviour change process and the gendered nature of male family violence.
