Purpose
The purpose of the Family Therapist is to provide intensive therapeutic services to children, young people and their families with serious and/or complex mental health, behavioural and/or emotional needs to maximise their developmental potential. You will deliver the evidence-based model for families of children aged 11 – 18 years within the family’s home environment and make that difference in their lives to assist repair and strengthen their relationships, improve communication and reduce conflict in the home.
The program is facilitated by experienced and suitably qualified therapists who help identify strengths and challenges within the family behaviours, developing effective strategies for changing them within the family system.
The FFT program has been tested with positive results to over 40,000 families a year across the globe that are at risk of involvement in the justice and child welfare system.
To be successful in this role OzChild will provide the highest standard of comprehensive training in this evidence-based model to the successful candidate and ongoing intensive support.

This program has more than 30 years of research behind it and shows families how to change when they just don’t know how. Be a part of that change, the journey and set the family up for success. As a Family Therapist you will be delivering Functional Family Therapy & working with young people aged between 11 – 18 and their families. Following a well-researched Evidence Informed Model FFT is a short-term therapeutic technique which emphasises participation by the parents in their home.
Who we are looking for:
- Bachelor qualifications in Counselling, Social Work, Family Therapy or Psychology
- Previous experience in a therapeutic environment ideally utilising recognised therapy practices such as CBT
- Strong communication, open and collaborative with the team
- Knowledge and experience working within the out of home care sector would be highly regarded
- Good communication skills and the ability to build relationships and rapport with families and young people
- You will receive support and mentoring during your training and commencement

- SCHADS 5 $93,860.00 plus super (negotiable upon experience)
