Are you a dedicated and experienced family worker with experience in providing culturally safe and trauma informed counselling and support? Want to make a real difference by providing telephone support and assistance for the families and friends of people in NSW prisons?

CRC is excited to be recruiting for part time Family Worker to join the dedicated professionals in our Specialist Programs team. And we’d love to hear from you.

  • Play a key part in an organisation with proven results, and contribute to long-lasting change for our clients and the community
  • Join a diverse and passionate team in a flexible and supportive organisation

We want to hear from people from all backgrounds, including those with lived experience of the criminal justice system.

The Opportunity

As Family Worker, you’ll be at the heart of our organisation providing support for clients who often struggle to access services that meet their specific needs. You’ll use holistic, therapeutic social and emotional wellbeing counselling and support for families and friends of people who are currently in custody in NSW Correctional Centres.

Your role includes:

  • Project and client support: Receiving and assessing referrals, providing counselling and support, and project administration will make up most of your day. You’ll actively build positive relationships with Government, community and other services to source relevant support and to advocate for the needs of clients. You’ll approach every task with empathy, keeping our clients’ goals front and centre.
  • Capacity building for other services: You will oversee the development and delivery of training for external agencies to build their capacity in working with families of prisoners. The goal? To improve the social and emotional wellbeing of clients, and ensure they receive services from other agencies that meet their needs.
  • Data, administrative and assessment duties: While the majority of this job involves client-facing duties, data collection will be an important part of your role. You’ll conduct general administrative duties including updating and maintaining accurate case files.
  • Cultural safety: You’ll work in culturally appropriate ways in recognition of the unique cultural needs of First Nations people and people from a CALD background.

Your usual work hours will be 4 days per week, Monday to Friday, with occasional out-of-hours work, as required.

Why work for us?

  • Support programs that aim to break entrenched cycles of disadvantage, homelessness and imprisonment
  • Be part of a community-based agency that has been delivering effective services in our field for over 70 years
  • Join a dedicated, energetic team with a culture of flexibility, trust, integrity and respect
  • Access the support of Cultural Supervision for First Nations staff
  • Enjoy additional Wellbeing Leave

CRC works with some of the state’s most stigmatised and marginalised people, and we are dedicated to providing them with the help they need. While our work can sometimes be challenging, the rewards are significant.

To join us, you’ll need:

  • Relevant qualification(s) in counselling or similar field and/or significant relevant experience
  • Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge and/or experience of working with people impacted by the criminal justice system.
