The British Embassy Baghdad currently has a vacancy for a Plumber Assistant, job grade S1.
The Plumber Assistant supports licensed plumbers in the installation, repair, and maintenance of plumbing systems within British Embassy Baghdad compound. This role involves performing basic plumbing tasks, preparing tools and materials, ensuring that all water supply and drainage systems are in good working condition and that any leaks, clogs or other plumbing issues are resolved quickly and efficiently, and ensuring the work area is safe and clean. The assistant must be proactive, reliable, and willing to learn and follow instructions.
Duties and responsibilities:
The above list is not exhaustive, and the jobholder will be required to be flexible as specific responsibilities could change in the future, and this would be at the discretion of the line manager and Senior Management. The job description may be reviewed to meet changes in business needs. The jobholder may also take on other ad hoc tasks as and when required, including participating in the Embassy’s emergency planning and any response to a crisis.

Working hours and remuneration:
The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role, including up to 21 days of annual leave (calculated pro-rata).
The role grade is S1, with a base salary of US$ 1422 per month. This base salary is paid 13 times a year. In addition, the role attracts a security allowance payable as part of this package. This security allowance is subject to review and may be altered or withdrawn at any time.
No accommodation nor relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.
This position is for a full-time employment on a permanent contract basis. Employment is also subject to a 90-day probationary period.
Conditioned working hours are 38 hours per week. Normal working hours are Sunday to Wednesday from 08:00 to 16:00 and Thursday from 08:00-14:00. The jobholder will be required to be flexible in their approach to hours worked as these will be dictated by operational needs and may involve working out of hours (evenings/ weekends/ holidays) or emergency on call hours
The jobholder may have to work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions, they may be exposed to noise, dust and hazardous material for which PPE will be provided. This role may include the jobholder to climb ladders, lift heavy equipment and materials up to 25kg and stand for long periods of time.
The Embassy encourages a culture of continuous learning. Training will be given in the role. All employees have access to the Civil Service Learning platform, which gives access to training to improve job specific skills. Employees are entitled to a minimum number of annual training days.
