The Equitable Growth, Finance, and Institutions Practice Group (EFI) is one of the World Bank Group’s four Practice Groups. EFI’s mandate is “Growth, Finance, and Institutions for all.” Our approach is to leverage public and private sector expertise, together with International Finance Corporation (IFC), to support a data-driven reform agenda. EFI supports clients in advancing evidence-based structural reforms to build the foundations for inclusive and sustainable growth.
EFI is composed of four Global Practices (GPs):
- The Macroeconomics, Trade, and Investment (MTI) GP
- The Governance GP
- The Poverty and Equity GP
- The Finance, Competitiveness, and Innovation (FCI) GP is composed of two directorates:
The Finance directorate, and the Trade, Investment and Competitiveness (TIC) directorate. The GP aims to support client countries to create an enabling environment in which financial stability, efficiency and firm-level solutions are provided in an integrated way to crowd in the private sector, support the creation of markets, and accelerate equitable growth. FCI leads or participates in a wide variety of analytical and advisory work that add to the core expertise delivered to client countries. Knowledge and learning are a central part of the FCI agenda, with work focused on the following thematic areas: (a) Financial Stability and Integrity; (b) Long Term Finance; (c) Financial Inclusion and Infrastructure; (d) Crisis & Disaster Risk Finance; (e) Investment Climate; (f) Firms, Entrepreneurship and Innovation; (g) Markets and technology; and (h) Trade and regional integration.
FCI Pakistan is leading significant analytics and operations, both in the domain of private and financial sector development. The engagement is currently focused on housing finance, financial sector stability, financial inclusion, and microfinance on the financial sector side, while being focused on tourism, spatial development and broader firm level competitiveness on the private sector side.
Duties and accountabilities:
The FCI Pakistan team is looking to hire an Analyst (ETC) to support with the implementation of on-going projects, preparation of pipeline projects, in addition to research support for the preparation of core analytics and diagnostics, focused both on the private sector and financial sector. Specifically, the candidate will:
- Support necessary project preparation and supervision activities, this includes technical inputs on private and financial sector challenges, as well as close attention to financial management, procurement, and safeguards.
- Contribute to advisory and analytical work undertaken by the GP in Pakistan, such as: competitiveness diagnostics, firm surveys, value chain analysis, data analysis, financial sector monitoring etc.
- Provide inputs to other Global Practices on private and financial sector related policies under the guidance of Task Team Leaders.
- Provide technical support and inputs to the country level strategic policy dialogue centered on private and financial sector development.
- Contribute to briefings for WBG country management and support the integration of relevant investment policies, business environment, and firm competitiveness issues in the WBG country strategy.
- Contribute to a variety of written products and communications, including components of major reports (Briefs, Analytical Notes, Back to Office Reports, Aide Memoires, Project Concept Notes, and Project Documents), as well as drafts other technical working papers for wider circulation.
- Other tasks as requested by the Practice Manager and/or Task Team Leaders.
Selection Criteria
- Master’s degree in Economics, Business, Public Policy, or a closely related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant professional experience in private and financial sector development within the public or private sector.
- Strong conceptual and analytical skills, with the ability to understand and solve complex problems.
- Good command of microeconomics; econometric skills are strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of private and financial sector challenges in Pakistan.
- Project management skills and prior experience contributing to policy publications/reports.
- Excellent oral and written English skills; motivated, driven, and committed to World Bank Group’s development goals.
