Grist has opened applications for the new cycle for three paid, remote journalism fellowships, and I hope you can share this opportunity with your student and alumni communities. The fellowship runs for one year and includes $ 58,750 in compensation with a robust benefits package.
Grist is a nonprofit, independent media organization dedicated to telling stories of climate solutions and a just future. The Grist Fellowship Program offers the opportunity to hone skills at a national news outlet and develop a deeper understanding of environmental issues. The fellowship is designed to give early-career journalists with a demonstrated interest in environmental issues the experience to succeed in climate and environmental media. We offer real-world experience at a fast-paced news site, training in a variety of skills key to a journalism career, and exposure to the leading sustainability thinkers and theories of our time.
We’re especially seeking those underrepresented in climate reporting spaces and those with a passion for justice-based journalism. Our past fellows have included recent journalism school graduates, freelancers who have never been a part of a national newsroom, scientists with deep content knowledge and a few reporting clips, reporters from other beats looking to make novel connections to climate change, and talented writers who have never received formal journalism training.
The experience runs May 5, 2025-April 30, 2026. Our deadline for applying is January 21, 2025. Applicants may apply to more than one position. Our fellowships are in the following areas:
Climate News
Climate Solutions
Indigenous Affairs
Details about each fellowship, the application process and compensation for each position are available at https://job-boards.greenhouse.io/grist.
Only positions submitted through Greenhouse will be submitted. Do not email or mail any materials for this role.
