Position description

CAFNR International Programs (CIP) provides technical assistance to our international partners and facilitates global engagement for faculty and students across the College. The office coordinates international training programs each year, including Cochran and Borlaug Fellowships for international visitors to the US, and the International Agricultural Education Fellowship for US citizens to promote agriculture in Mexico.

Duties

The IAEFP-Mexico connects youth and agriculture in Puebla, Mexico. The fellowship will support and train eleven fellows to be based in a high school for an academic year to promote agriculture and leadership among the students and community. The program is funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and implemented by the University of Missouri and the educational leader UPAEP in Puebla.

The IAEFP is open to U.S. citizens with a bachelor’s degree in an agriculture-related field and Spanish language skills. Fellows receive training and mentorship to grow their local ag, language, and youth development capabilities. The fellowship covers expenses by providing housing, health insurance, and travel costs, and a $900 monthly stipend.

During the IAEFP, Fellows will dedicate time weekly to:
1. Being 4-H leaders in their schools (implementing clubs in extracurricular spaces and also during open class periods)
2. Promoting ag and STEM hands-on learning in high school (supporting the full-time teachers), and
3. Providing technical expertise through the local agriculture extension mechanisms in their rural and urban communities.

Their contributions will leave a lasting impact in their communities and the experience will advance the Fellows’ knowledge of youth development, agricultural entrepreneurship, and their ability to serve immigrant communities in the U.S.
