2 Research Grants Announcement (M/F)
Call open for applications for a research grant within the scope of actions “INFINITY”, AISME” e “Self-made “, with references 23016, 23053 e 23215 financed by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) Manufacturing, a body of the European Union, under the Horizon Europe programme, on the following conditions:
Scientific Area: Electrical and Computer Engineering, Technological Innovation
Admission requirements: Candidates who cumulatively meet the following two requirements may apply for this grant:
Requirement 1:
– Be a student enrolled in a doctoral program in Electrical and Computer Engineering, a requirement to be duly proven at the time of signing the contract.
or
– To be enrolled in a non-academic degree course integrated in the educational project of a higher education institution, developed in association or cooperation with one or more R&D units, a requirement to be duly proven at the time of signing the contract.
Note: In the case of masters who are enrolled in non‐academic degree courses, the scholarship can only be awarded to those who do not exceed, with this scholarship contract, including possible renewals, an accumulated period of two years in that typology of the scholarship, followed or interpolated.

– Hold a master’s degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering or in Technological Innovation
If the degree has been awarded by a foreign higher education institution, it must comply with the provisions of the Decree-Law no. 66/2018, of august 16th, and any formalities established there must be fulfilled until the time of signing the contract.
Activity Outline: The fellow will be integrated in the research activity of the EIT-Manufacturing team, in the scope of the tasks of the actions, as follows:
INFINITY purpose is to foster circular economy skills attainment in manufacturing industries for employees, professionals, as well as vocational students, focusing on technical areas of low environmental footprint systems & circular economy for green manufacturing.
Tasks in the grantee’s work plan:
Task 2 – Assessment toward contents development
Task 3 – Learning nuggets development and adaptation
Task 4 – Learning path delivery
AISME project aims at training managers, engineers, and technicians, working in or for SMEs, in
key subjects to guide manufacturing SMEs to implement sustainable AI solutions.

The Self-Made activity will work together with at least 20 Manufacturing SMEs to assess their current digital maturity, identify the required steps and knowledge needs to accelerate their transformation.

Legislation and regulations: Law Nº. 40/2004, of 18th August, in its current wording (Statutes of Scientific Research Fellow) and Regulation of Research Grants of University of Porto.
Work place: The work will be developed at the Department of Informatics Engineering, in the Digital and Intelligent Industry Research Laboratory (DIGI2), of the Systems and Technologies Research Center (SYSTEC), of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP), under the scientific supervision of Professor Gil Manuel Magalhães de Andrade Gonçalves.
Grant duration: Initial duration of 6 months, with the predicted starting date inFebruary of 2024, on an exclusive basis eventually renewable but never exceeding the actions/project duration.
If the contracting procedures do not allow the scholarship to have a minimum duration of 3 consecutive months, in accordance with paragraph 2 of article 10 of the Research Regulation of Research Grants of University of Porto, the grant will not be awarded.
The eventual renewal of the scholarship will be carried out as determined in article 10 of the Regulation of Research Grants of University of Porto.
Stipend: The grant stipend amounts to 1.259.64€ according to the table of values of the Regulation of Research Grants of University of Porto.
The payment will be made by bank transfer.
Selection procedure: The selection of fellows will be based on a curriculum evaluation (CE), which will focus on the candidate’s merit, and an interview (I). The interview will be held for the best-ranked candidates whose classification in the curricular assessment is equal to or higher than 4 points (4 in 5 points).
The evaluation criteria for the curricular component are:
Curriculum Evaluation=( 30%*A+30 %*B+ 30%*C+ 10%*D
. Academic profile of the candidate: Master’s degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering or in Technological Innovation; Master’s degree in related areas (2 points);
B. Knowledge of Cyber-Physical Systems, Automation, Sensor Networks, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence (1 to 5 points);
C. Knowledge of intelligent systems based on AI, mobile robotics, automation, data science and machine learning, as well as computational learning techniques, (1 to 5 points);
D. Motivation letter that will allow to evaluate the English proficiency and motivation of the candidate (1 to 5 points).
After reviewing the documentation submitted, the Selection Jury will interview the top-ranked candidates whose classification in the curriculum evaluation is equal to or higher than 4 points (4 in 5 points) , where it will be verified:
Interview Classification =(50%* IC1) +(25% * IC2) +(25% * IC3
I-C1 – Knowledge and motivation for the job:
I-C2 – Attitude (evaluates the applicant’s behavior in terms of teamwork, conflict management skills, persuasiveness, presentation, and confidence)
I-C3 – Ability of expression and verbal fluency in Portuguese and/or English (coherence and clarity of speech, richness of vocabulary, ability to understand and interpret the questions asked).
The final classification of the candidates interviewed will result from the sum of the classifications obtained in the Curriculum Evaluation (CE) and Selection Interview (I), attributing to each a weighting factor of 50%.
Candidates whose application is evaluated with a final classification lower than 4 (four) points (4 in 5 points) will not be eligible for a scholarship.

Advertisement of final decision: The results of the evaluation will be released to the candidates by email to the email address indicated in the application process.

The call is open from 22/02/2024 to 06/03/2024 (until 23h59m, GMT time).
