The Program for HIV and AIDS under the Health System and Population Studies Division (HSPSD) at icddr,b provides good quality HIV prevention services to key populations at risk of HIV infection since 2010. This has been made possible by working with the Government of Bangladesh (GoB), donors, NGOs and CBOs. Recently, the Program for HIV and AIDS has taken several initiatives to reach Hard-to-reach community groups with an innovative service delivery approach. 
The Field Assistant will report to the Assistant Program Manager and will collect quantitative data from key populations at risk of HIV infection to enable intervention participants to enroll into specific studies. He/she is also responsible to explain and provide HIV prevention services to the project participants and persuade them to provide biological samples (blood, urine and swab) to test Syphilis, HIV and other STIs within the guidelines of the study protocols and organizational values and guidelines. S/he will be involved in –
  • Receive project assignment from Supervisor and understand project scope, questionnaire, survey methodology, timelines, targeted respondents, areas, scope of technical work etc. as per project requirement;
  • Work as per the plan devised by the Supervisor;
  • Collect Data /Sample from respondents;
  • Compile all data, prepare narrative and quantitative monthly and quarterly report;
  • Identify and motivate respondents to participate in the study;
  • Validate collected data with the supervisor;
  • Perform technical functions as required by the project (i.e. operating and maintaining Freezer, Cool Box, Autoclave Machine etc.)
  • Take appropriate measures to ensure personal safety and security;
  • Handle/sterilize/dispose of bio-hazard materials (if any) as per SOP;
  • Provide Administrative and logistics support as required;
  • Escalate any issues to the supervisor for his/her guidance;
  • Perform data entry (if required) and submit collected data to supervisor/data team; Organize and preserve different official documents/records/files;
  • Orient new team members on study methods/machine operations;
  • Work with administrative personnel to execute project-related day-to-day activities;
  • Provide all other necessary support services for conducting meetings, workshops/seminars, training programs, recruitment & selection process etc. in the office as well as in the field sites.
Required qualifications and experience:
  • SSC Pass or equivalent; 
  • Minimum 1-year experience in a relevant field with key populations.
