Position Purpose:                        

Field Education Program Coordinators work with trip leaders of youth, family and adult groups to customize field science programs in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. Program Coordinators also train and coach field educators who may be paid instructors, graduate students or AmeriCorps members. Program Coordinators also manage the logistics and administrative work of the Field Education team. The administrative work includes a programmatic focus area. This faculty position has a focus area of Grand Teton National Park partner programs and Jackson area community programs.                        

  • Experience collaborating with partner organizations to create programming that meets the missions of both organizations and the needs of the target audience.

  • Master’s degree or equivalent work experience preferred                        
  • Minimum of three years of experience teaching in a combination of formal (K-12) and informal (outdoor/environmental education) settings                        
  • Experience with community outreach and community engagement, especially with diverse, historically marginzalized communities, specifically Latinx and Indigenous communities. Applicants who identify as members of these communities are encouraged to apply.

  • Strong Spanish skills; native or bilingual speaker preferred.                        
  • Experience coaching educators                         
  • Ability to manage risk and make leadership decisions in front and backcountry settings                        
  • Organizational and prioritization skills                         
  • Familiarity with Google Apps             

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements: 

  • Primarily based at the Kelly Campus of Teton Science Schools with potential meetings/interactions/work on all campus locations                        
  • Primarily indoors in an office setting: sitting and standing for long stretches while using a computer                        
  • Stretches of time outdoors in all weather, including extreme temperatures and arid conditions                        
  • May be expected to work evenings, holidays or weekends to support programs and events                        
  • Carry a backpack of 20+ lbs for 8 hours a day over uneven terrain                        
  • Time spent hiking/camping in front- and back-country settings                        
  • Able to drive 15 passenger vans for extended periods (up to 10 hours per day)

Responsibilities: 

Hosting Programs                        

  • Work with visiting groups to develop customized, high-quality, place-based education programs.                    
  • Facilitate the growth of educators through all aspects of programming including meetings and debriefs.                      
  • Complete administrative duties necessary for high quality programs and efficient customer service including resource management, scheduling and program logistics.

Focus Area

  • Manage Field Education’s programs and partnerships with Grand Teton National Park and the Jackson area community, with a focus on community outreach, DEI, and increasing access to public lands and outdoor spaces for historically marginalized communities.                    

Educator Development                        

  • Coach field educators to develop and refine pedagogical, instructional, and leadership skills.                    
  • Plan and implement onboarding, training and professional development for field educators to provide place-based programming in Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks that increases scientific literacy, understanding of place and leadership skills.                     

Field Education Support

  • Serve as a member of a Field Education faculty team focused on curriculum and instruction, operations, or staffing systems.                    
  • Serve in the faculty on-call rotation for Field Education.                    
  • Support and assist in the management of Field Education systems including food service, gear, hands to work, registration, operations, campus systems and marketing. 

One TSS Responsibilities

  • Actively cross market TSS to all program participants and support offsite marketing efforts.                    
  • Actively seek opportunities for internal and external collaboration through programs, resources, curriculum and staff to efficiently and effectively support the mission of TSS.
