The FAO Representation in Ghana is the body in charge of ensuring liaison between FAO and the Government of Ghana and is the first port of call for analysing and appraising government assistance requests; identifying, formulating, implementing and monitoring all FAO programmes and projects; managing all phases of the project cycle for national projects for which operational and budget holder responsibilities have been assigned by the Technical Cooperation Department; identifying opportunities for collaboration, and mobilizing technical and operational support from the Regional Office, Headquarters and other funding sources as appropriate.
Tasks and responsibilities:
- In close coordination with the Technical Adviser, oversee FAO’s activities and office in Northern Ghana
- Coordinate the daily operations of the field office and ensure the safety, security and maintenance of FAO assets including vehicles and office equipment.
- Coordinate the implementation of field activities, monitor and review their status and suggest corrective actions in compliance with the respective project’s monitoring and evaluation requirements.
- Ensure effective coordination with the representatives of local authorities in Northern Ghana for the implementation of FAO activities, as well as with the relevant UN agencies, NGOs and other civil society institutions operating in the region.
- Prepare written outputs, including analytical reports on project performances, draft interim and final narrative reports.
- Liaise with FAO’s Communication Officer to ensure visibility of FAO’s activities and the dissemination of appropriate visibility items/materials in compliance with donor and FAO requirements.
- Support the implementation of Ghana’s Country Programming Framework (CPF) Priorities such as on “Sustainable Natural Resource Management for a Safe, Secure and Productive Environment” and CPF Priority 3: Resilient Livelihoods for reduced Vulnerability and Rural Poverty.
- Perform any other duties as may be required.
Candidates Will Be Assessed Against The Following
Minimum Requirements:
- University degree in project management, business or public administration or related field
- Minimum 7 years of experience in project management especially in the agricultural sector
- Working knowledge of English (level C)
- National of Ghana
Technical/Functional Skills
- Work experience in more than one location or area of work, particularly in field positions is desirable.
- Extent and relevance of experience in office/programme/project management, in the management/operation of small-, medium and/or large-scale offices or projects at country and community levels, including in-depth knowledge of related administrative, operational and financial procedures.
- Extent and relevance of experience and skills in project identification, programme and project implementation, analysis, planning and implementation.
- Understanding of FAO policies and programmes is considered a strong asset.
- Knowledge of field programme issues in the region is considered a strong asset.
- Experience working with the community under the UN, NGOs and/or farmer groups is a plus.
