About the Role

GiveDirectly is implementing a Universal Basic Income Project in Maryland County. We are seeking Field Officers – Follow Up who are dependable and self-driven to ensure the successful completion of our Follow Up data collection process. The Field Officers – Follow Up will play a critical day-to-day role in delivering Give Directly gold- standard cash transfer product to donors and recipients.

The Field Officer – Follow Up will carry out and support a variety of field activities, depending on his / her team assignment and GiveDirectly’s needs on any given day. In short, the Field Officers – Follow Up will be responsible for executing the recipient surveys and associated processes that facilitate Give Directly’s unique cash transfer model, from enrollment of recipients to sending actual transfers. The role will reward high-quality judgment on operational questions and challenges, work ethic, communication skills, and a strong commitment to GiveDirectly’s mission and model.

As a Field Officer – Follow Up, you will be responsible for conducting interviews and collecting information from households and individuals within a project location. Our ideal candidate is a good communicator with excellent interpersonal skills, has good attention to detail, and is able to work independently. This position is for a short-term duration up to December 2024 and eight (8) Field data collection Officers are needed. The field officers will attend various training sessions, administer surveys, collect, and upload data using digital data collection tools. This position will be based in Pleebo, Maryland County

Key Responsibilities

  •  Meet with the community leaders and guides to understand community boundaries 
  • Coordinate with team members, visit every household in the town or community 
  • Complete follow up surveys with accurate data 
  • Explain GiveDirectly’s program to eligible households 
  • Identify and eliminate ineligible households
  • Explain safety and readiness information to recipients 
  • Ensure someone in the household is ready to operate the phone to access transfers
  • Collect data that will be used to improve the program, and uncover any recipient problems
  • Raise/escalate any sensitive cases that may cause harm to a recipient’s transfer, life/family safety for action to be taken
  • Propose any new ideas to the Follow up Associate Field Manager based on the recipient feedback
  • Capture the interaction between enrollment officers and the recipients accurately without omission and distortion.
  • The Field Officer – Follow Up will participate in these activities to varying degrees depending on the organization’s needs and perform any other duties assigned by your manager 

 

Qualifications and Skills

  • Minimum of High School Diploma with not less than 3 years Data collection experience or Bachelor Degree in Social Sciences, Economics, Mass Communication, sociology and related field of studies
  • Previous working experience in the field with a preference for vulnerable communities 
  • Good time management skills
  • Physical fitness and the ability to cope with difficult weather conditions or terrain
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to represent the organization effectively to external parties
  • Good computer and mobile device data entry and assessment ability or experience
  • Critical thinking ability and good judgment in resolving operational glitches at the level of the field in the absence of a direct line manager. 
  • Strong interest in the mission of GiveDirectly and commitment to advancing GD’s unique values
  • Ability to exercise patience and good judgment in resolving recipient problems. 
  • Ability to handle complaints in a polite; empathetic and professional manner
  • Ability to use a positive, constructive, and solution-focused approach whenever conflict arises
  • Positive attitude and enthusiasm when faced with routine work 
  • Ability to multitask
  • High levels of integrity and confidentiality of recipient information.

About the hiring process

Format: The hiring process follows the same general outline for all open roles:

*For some roles, second & third interviews are combined into a panel interview. If there are adjustments or variations on this process, those changes will be communicated during the first interview.

Venue: We conduct interviews over Google Meet with camera on (unless communicated otherwise).
