BACKGROUND:
Established in 1948, The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) is a membership Union composed of both government and civil society organizations. It harnesses the experience, resources and reach of its more than 1,300 Member organizations and the input of more than 10,000 experts. IUCN is the global authority on the status of the natural world and the measures needed to safeguard it.
About the Project;
IUCN Kenya is implementing the TWENDE Project – Towards Ending Drought Emergencies: Ecosystem Based Adaptation in Kenya’s Arid and Semi-Arid Rangelands. The objective of the TWENDE project is to reduce the cost of climate change induced drought on Kenya’s national economy by increasing resilience of the livestock and other land use sectors in restored and effectively governed rangeland ecosystems. The project contributes to Kenya’s national policy of “Ending Drought Emergencies”, as outlined in “Kenya Vision 2030”. It strengthens climate change adaptation in Kenya’s arid and semi-arid lands (ASALs). The project is implemented in partnership with the Government of Kenya through the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Cooperatives (MoALFC); National Drought Management Authority (NDMA); and Conservation International (CI). IUCN acts as an Accredited Entity while NDMA, the MoALFC, and CI are the Executing Entities for Component 1, Component 2 and Component 3 respectively. The geographical scope is 3 landscapes of Sabarwawa, Mid Tana and Chyulu Hills and encompasses 11 counties.
