What you’ll be doing

This role will see you working with primary and secondary schools, colleges, and universities
to deliver curriculum-linked activities that will increase students understanding of nature and
the environment.

Your day to day will include developing, planning, and delivering courses in outdoor teaching
sites to students on science and geography school trips. This will involve leading groups of
all abilities in the local environment, ensuring you always have the health and safety of the
group in mind.

When you are not working in the field, you will also be happy to contribute to other aspects of
working in a busy education centre. This is a very active role, some weeks will be long and
tiring, but our tutors find this work very rewarding, and we promise you will too!

Kindly note, the working pattern for this position will be based on 37.5 hours per week from
March to October and 18 hours per week from November to February each year. For 2024 only, the
hours for the month of February will be increased to 37.5 hours per week allow for sufficient
training before our busy season commences.

Where you’ll be based

Just 30 minutes from Taunton, Field Studies Council Nettlecombe Court is situated in a secluded
valley at the eastern edge of Exmoor National Park. The house is a striking example of a Tudor
and Georgian country mansion set within its own grounds.

The grounds are made up of heritage parkland, ancient woodland containing many veteran oak
trees as well as a Site of Special Scientific Interest because of its lichen communities.

We have excellent access to field study sites on the Somerset coast as well as Exmoor National
Park and The Quantocks Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Who we’re looking for

You will have a degree or equivalent in a relevant subject and some previous experience of
teaching or tutoring. You will also be confident with producing and preparing various learning
resources. A specialism in geography would be desirable, but this is not an essential
requirement.
