About the Role:
Treeswift is seeking a mission-oriented Field Technician excited about deploying to Treeswift client locations and leveraging our cutting edge robotic technology to collect forest inventories. You will be responsible for operating Treeswift robotic backpacks which include recording terrestrial LiDAR and ancillary sensor package data. This candidate will report to the Lead Forester for their work region. Additional work may include field verification measurements and machine learning model training. Through this role you will be exposed to field sampling protocols for various forest inventory types including timber, carbon, biodiversity, research, continuous forest inventory, and right-of-way vegetation assessments. Your participation in these projects will introduce you to industry leaders in forestry, carbon, and utilities through site visits and product demonstrations.
What you’ll do at Treeswift:
- Collect forest measurements using Swiftpack (terrestrial-based LiDAR and video backpack) across the United States, primarily in the Southeast
- Work closely with members of the engineering, field operations, and sales teams to execute data collection services in forests spanning thousands of acres
- Plan field operations according to weather, environmental, or other conditions
- Occasionally collect field verification measurements using traditional tree measurement tools and assist engineering team with machine learning model training when weather conditions prevent fieldwork

Job Requirements
- You hold a Bachelor’s degree in Forestry or a related field
- Has 3 months+ experience doing timber cruising or timber inventory, or other relevant outdoor work experience
- Willingness and ability to travel around the United States (this job is 80-100% travel to client locations)
- You will be required to follow Treeswift’s safety policy
- You must be able to carry a 10 lbs backpack while traveling up to 8 miles on steep terrain without trails
- Comfortable operating independently in the field and maintaining operational tempo through bad weather and rough terrain
