  1. Job Description / Assignment

EF is offering an intern position to acquire skills in financial and accountability subjects. The intern will perform tasks in EF office in Erbil to support EF projects in Iraq, KRI and North-East Syria. The Tutor will be the Senior Finance Officer in Charge of Admin, Finance and HR and the intern will work in close liaison with the HR and Finance Officer.

Overall purpose of the role: The Finance Assistant Intern will provide basic and supportive assistance to the finance and program teams by assisting in day-to-day financial processes, documentation, and data entry tasks. The intern will gain hands-on experience in financial management while ensuring compliance with EF and donor requirements.

Main tasks:

  • Support the finance department in monthly closing (e.g. scanning files, cash exchange, etc.)
  • Help preparing basic payment requests and support documentation (e.g. payment authorization)
  • Prepare related financial documents (e.g. receipts)
  • Collect and archive financial documents with needed supporting documents (invoice, timesheet, GRN, payment receipt, quotation, emails, etc.)
  • Assist in checking and organizing supporting documents before review by the Senior Officer
  • Assist with the preparation of monthly cashbooks and financial logs
  • Classify and archive all financial documentation
  • Ensure assistance related to finance to all EF programs staff and partners when needed
  • Make sure that budgets and coding of all expenses are done correctly according to each project
  • Help in tracking petty cash advances and follow-ups
  • Follow up on finance advances on petty cash
  • Support in encoding budget lines or checking expense coding under supervision
  • Perform any other finance-related tasks requested by the tutor

 

TECHNICAL SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE

Education level

  • Relevant University degree in Economics/Finances/Accounting or equivalent education

Qualifications

  • 2024-2025 graduates or final-year students eligible for internship placement
  • Computer literate with excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and internet.

Personal qualities

  • Good communication and reporting skills.
  • Strong relationship management skills and the ability to work effectively with finance, administration and program staff.
  • Proactive, results-oriented, and service-oriented.
  • Strong working knowledge of Arabic and English (spoken and written). Kurdish and French would be an asset.
