I. JOB OVERVIEW

Job Description Summary: The Finance and Administration Office at the Columbian College of Arts and Sciences (CCAS) provides administrative leadership, operational and human resource guidance and services to the college community. The role of the Finance and Administration Team is to support the mission and strategic objectives of the college and the George Washington University and to assist all CCAS academic departments, centers and institutes by implementing financial strategy, policies and operational procedures.
The Finance Associate performs a wide variety of analytical and administrative duties to support financial management operations within a school or division. This position works closely with the department’s Finance Director (FD) and collaboratively with assigned departments.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Financial functions of this position may include:
  • Approves CCAS stipends and/or GA/GRA hires, and initiates CCAS tuition awards approved by the CCAS Graduate Student Services Office ensuring timely distribution, budget availability and accounting accuracy.
  • Processes cash, check and credit card deposits for the Dean’s office.
  • Assists academic departments with complex purchase orders and/or invoices.
  • Assists the Finance Director with reviewing and reconciling procurement activities, payments and PCard transactions.
  • Reviews and initiates endowment requests ensuring fund availability and accounting accuracy.
  • Participates in the fiscal planning, budget management, cost/benefit analysis and implementation of special projects and initiatives.

Administrative/Operational functions may include:

  • Supports the finance team’s website and general email account.
  • Assists CCAS departments and programs with financial systems access requests.
  • Assists with coordinating budget and administrators’ meetings and organizing project logistics.
  • Provides back-up financial/administrative support for CCAS academic departments during staff position vacancies.
  • Participates in training of the new department staff.
  • Assists with College capital project, relocation and minor facilities requests/projects; monitors and reports on the progress of projects.

Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 2 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Typical Hiring Range $51,455.52 – $70,708.76 How is pay for new employees determined at GW?
