Facilities Management (FM) at the University of Virginia has an exciting opportunity for a Finance Generalist to join their team.  This role supports the Capital Construction and Renovations team and is responsible for financially managing approximately 700 construction projects totaling about $2 billion annually.  This role will be responsible for a variety of professional level work across various financial disciplines. The candidate will possess a solid financial background, either gained through work experience or education, which allows them to assume a wide range of duties across multiple areas, including accounting, budget, financial analysis, purchasing, or treasury.

Duties Include:

  • Oversee the daily project reconciliation and resolve exception variances timely. 

  • Maintain and monitor project suspense, default and clearing accounts. 

  • Prepare and certify monthly account certifications for construction projects. 

  • Develop and implement accurate, timely, and complete budget and accounting documents, spreadsheets, and templates for teams.

  • Oversee project closeout process for construction projects including final billing, purchase order closeout and additional follow-ups as required. 

  • Ensure that invoices are paid accurately and promptly so the department complies with the University’s requirements.  Responsible for resolving any discrepancies with vendors as needed.

  • Prepare required journal entries for projects as needed. 

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly as well as ad-hoc financial and construction project reporting.

  • Support construction teams with project finances related task including budgeting, forecasting, expenditure analysis and contractual payments for construction projects.  

  • Serve as representative for the organization in wider institutional finance initiatives.

  • Serve on committees and attend standing meetings. Participate in training sessions to keep apprised of changes in policy and procedures.

  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Minimum Requirements:
Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree in relevant subject and at least two years of experience required.  Equivalent experience accepted in lieu of degree.  The ideal candidate must be proficient with Microsoft applications including Excel. 

Anticipated Hiring Range: $60,000 – $65,000 annually; commensurate with education and experience.    
 

This is a full-time, exempt-level position with UVA benefits including:
