What You’ll Do

Reporting To The Managing Director Of Finance, The Finance Manager, Budget And Grants Supports The Daily Management Of Financial Functions For The Roosevelt Institute; Its 501(C)(4) Partner Organization, Roosevelt Forward; And The FDR Library Program At Roosevelt. The Finance Manager Manages The Annual Budget, Including Development, Revisions, And Reporting, And Manages Grants, Which Includes Monitoring Spending And Funder Financial Reporting.

The Finance Manager Will Work Closely With All Teams In The Organization. The Position Requires Excellent Communication And Collaboration Skills, Including An Ability To “Translate” Financial Information To Senior Staff. This Is A Great Opportunity For A Candidate Familiar With Budgets And Grants Who Will Thrive In A Hands‐On Environment Driven By Goals And Deliverables.

Essential Functions And Responsibilities:

Budget Management

  • Manage The Annual Budget Process, Including Developing Timelines And Tracking Deliverables;
  • Facilitate Monthly Budget Revision Requests From The Executive Team;
  • Provide Monthly Analysis Of Budget Revision Requests To Support Effective Decision-Making And Resource Allocation;
  • Track Approved Budget Revision Expenses;
  • Produce, Analyze, And Summarize Monthly Budget Reports For The Managing Director Of Finance, Chief Financial Officer, Executive Team, And Cost Center Directors;
  • Schedule And Prepare For Monthly Meetings With The Managing Director Of Finance And Cost Center Directors To Review Budget Reports, Spending Projections, And Grants; And
  • Maintain And Improve Budget Management Tools And Research Alternatives.

Grants Management

  • Process, Review, And Save Incoming Grants And Coordinate With The Senior Finance Manager On The Accounts Receivable Invoice Entry;
  • Collaborate With The Development And Program Teams, Ensuring Alignment On Grant Spending And Financial Deliverables;
  • Develop Internal Grant Budgets, Ensuring They Are Entered Into The Grant Matrix And Accounting Software;
  • Coordinate With The Development Team On Funder Financial Reporting Requirements And Deadlines For All Grants;
  • Produce Funder Financial Reports For All Grants For Review By The Controller And Development Team Ahead Of Donor Reporting Deadlines;
  • Produce Monthly Grant Budget Variance Reports And Support Managing Director Of Finance In Outreach To Development And Program Staff On Grant Spending;
  • Update Monthly Grant Balances In A Shared Document For All Teams To Reference; And
  • Maintain And Improve Grants Management Tools And Research Alternatives.

Finance Management

  • Review And Approve All Contractor Agreements, Considering The Organization’s Fiscal Policies, Budget, And Grants Budgets;
  • Review Agreement Encumbrances Entered In The Accounting System By The Finance Associate And Review General Ledger Detail Reports By Cost Center Prior To Monthly Close To Verify Coding Is In Line With Budgets And Grants;
  • Review Semimonthly Accounts Payable Batches To Verify Coding Is In Line With Budgets And Grants;
  • Support Team Compliance With Roosevelt’s Fiscal Policies And Procedures Manual And Donor Policies, Enforce Internal Controls, And Contribute To Policy And Procedure Updates;
  • Support The Annual Audit And Preparation Of Financial Statements And Tax Return Schedules; And
  • Support The Finance Team In Other Financial Matters As Required.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree In Accounting, Business, Or A Related Field;
  • Three To Five Years Of Experience In Nonprofit Finance;
  • Demonstrated Experience Managing Budgets And Grants;
  • Experience In Financial Reporting And Presentation;
  • Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills;
  • Advanced Excel Skills;
  • Familiarity With FundEZ, Salesforce, And SAP Concur Desirable;
  • Integrity, Trustworthiness, And Confidentiality;
  • Commitment To Meeting Goals, Deliverables, And Deadlines;
  • Eagerness To Work With A Diverse, Mission-Driven Team Of Professionals; And
