Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a leading protection agency with a mandate to protect, advocate and promote durable solutions for displacement affected populations.
DRC has been operating in Ukraine since 2014, currently DRC employs over 650 staff in Ukraine and will continue significant scale-up in 2024 to implement emergency response in the Protection, Livelihoods, Shelter/NFIs and Humanitarian Disarmament and Peacebuilding (humanitarian mine action) sectors, using direct interventions, support to duty bearers and civil society organizations (CSOs), and partnerships with CSOs. About the job
The Finance Manager (Chief Accountant), will support the organization’s compliance with Ukrainian legislation and reporting requirements. The role involves developing policies and standard operating procedures, enforcing them through on-the-job support and capacity building for project and support staff, and structuring the team’s tasks for efficiency. Additionally, the Finance Manager(Chief Accountant) will manage a team of 4 Accountants at the country office and provide technical support to Accountants at Area and Base offices across Ukraine.
Your main duties and responsibilities will be:
- Provide technical support and advice to the Country office, Area and Base accountants
- Ensure timely submission of high-quality accounting reports to both fiscal authorities and internal stakeholders
- Ensure compliance with relevant country statutory and other financial obligations such as tax, levies and statutory returns.
- Develop Accounting policies, standard operating procedures, working tools, templates and guidance, in cooperation with Managers
- Management of direct reports and overall responsibility for the team members (including recruitment, development, accountability, people planning and performance).
- Coordinate with relevant Managers to address key accounting issues across all programs in the country, including reporting, variances, and necessary corrective actions.
- Monthly accounting briefings to relevant Manager.
- Maintain a positive, collaborative, and enabling work environment
- Any other tasks assigned by the line manager
About you
To be successful in this role we expect you to be a team player for our finance team. We are looking for active and attentive to details colleague. You will need to work with a big volume of information and to have experience in Excel to sort and analyze them. Moreover, we also expect the following:
Required
- University degree: Master’s degree in Finance/Accounting or Business Administration
- Excellent Microsoft Office skills
- Work experience, minimum 5 years practical experience in accounting management
- Previous experience as a Chief Accountant for an NGO is preferable
- Proficiency in written and spoken English and Ukrainian language

- Speech, couch and communication skills
- Advanced organizational skills
- Accuracy in paper work
- Competence to keep negotiations
