Do you want to utilize your skills to support a team dedicated to increasing public access to free information in closed societies? That’s precisely what you’ll be doing as a Finance Manager at Vereinigung für die Demokratie (VD) e.V.
VD is a non-profit organization based in Berlin that oversees the independent media outlets Meydan TV in Azerbaijan and ROMB in Russia as they exercise their right to freedom of speech, informing people in societies where information and freedom of speech are compromised. Our work is grounded in the belief that independent media plays a pivotal role in a free and just society.
We are an international team seeking a dedicated and experienced full-time Finance Manager to join our Berlin team. Under the guidance of the Executive Director, the Finance Manager will oversee the financial aspects of the organization and both media projects. This entails active involvement in planning, budgeting, reporting, and documenting all aspects of the project portfolio, as well as internal financial management.
You will
- Actively introduce ideas and take part in fundraising planning
- Coordinate and compose budgets for funding applications
- Ensure financial and legal compliance with contractual obligations
- Prepare and deliver financial reports according to donor requirements and deadlines
- Complete monthly bank reconciliations
- Develop the organizational budget in consultation with the Executive Director
- Develop and give input on procedures and policies
- Oversee the transition from out-of-house to in-house accounting
- Ensure timely payments and documentation of payments, including allowability of costs
- Manage and ensure successful completion of the organization’s yearly tax declaration and audit
- Facilitate meetings and communication channels with financial contacts of the organization
- Participate in strategic planning discussions and contribute to the development of future projects and initiatives
You have
At least 3 years of experience in a similar role.
- BA or MA finance, accounting or a similar field, or proven experience in similar roles.
- A structured, analytical, and systematic approach to thinking and working, with great attention to detail.
- High level of integrity and honesty, cultural awareness/sensitivity, and financial accuracy.
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written in English, working level of German. A working level of Russian, Azerbaijani and/or Turkish is a plus but by no means required.
- Knowledgeable about the international development sector and project management.
- A sound knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word) and Google Drive, preferably already have experience in working with DATEV.
