Located on Gadigal and Bidjigal land (Randwick NSW), Black Dog Institute is the only Medical Research Institute in Australia to investigate mental health across the lifespan, our aim is to create a mentally healthier world for everyone. For the past 20 years, we have been at the forefront of mental health research.

The Role
The Finance Officer provides support to a range of internal stakeholders through general accounting duties. In addition, the role assists with identifying and implementing process improvements across the finance function at Black Dog Institute.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Contribute to the monthly financial accounting processes for BDI, including revenue and expense recognition.
- Monthly reconciliation of several general ledger accounts including bank accounts.
- Assistance in grant acquittal and reporting processes and associated reconciliations.
- Travel provider (MP Travel) and credit card reconciliation.
- Assist with accounts receivable, including customer management, raising invoices and processing refunds.
- Assist with accounts payable, including supplier management, supplier onboarding, supplier bank and business details checking.
- Post and reconcile transactions in Xero for Mind Venture subsidiary.
- Support audit process.
- Management of the finance inbox.
- Regularly review operating processes and procedures for work area and recommend and implement changes to allow for greater productivity.
- Assist Finance Business Partners as required.

Skills & Experience Required
- A minimum of two years recent experience in accounts receivable, accounts payable or Finance Officer role
- Ability to effectively manage time, set priorities and organise work in an effective and efficient manner to achieve set objectives to agreed timelines.
- Effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
- Ability to communicate effectively at all levels both within and outside the organisation to effectively translate ideas, concepts, and information.
- Demonstrated practical skills in accounting and use of finance systems.
- High levels of accuracy with a strong attention to detail.
- Demonstrated capacity to analyse and solve problems and use judgement and conceptual skills to make sound decisions.
- Minimum intermediate capability of Microsoft Office products, in particular with Excel
