ABOUT THE POSITION
This position will serve in a float capacity to provide accounting support for sponsored and non-sponsored accounts to various departments in the Medical School where there are gaps in staffing and where additional finance support is needed.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
90% Sponsored and Non-sponsored Accounting Support
- Provide financial support to PIs and Managers for a variety of sponsored and non-sponsored accounts
- Review and approve financial expenditures to ensure compliance with policies and procedures as both a departmental and certified approver
- Monitor expenses and revenue to ensure appropriate use of funds
- Identify gaps between predicted revenue and expenses and recommend a course of action based on financial, statistical, and operational information
- Ensure effort certification is accurate and completed by PI and meets all deadlines
- Ensure grants are closed out properly with Sponsored Financial Reporting (SFR) and issues are resolved with Sponsored Projects Administration (SPA)
- Prepare, review, and analyze a variety of reports, accounts, reconciliations, and/or statements to and from internal departments and external agencies
- Complete a variety of accounting functions, which include capitalizing assets, reconciling accounts, entering general ledger transactions, setting up new accounts, and monitoring fund balances
- Develop and enter non-sponsored budgets
- Prepare and present detailed and complex financial analysis for assigned grants and sponsored/non-sponsored accounts
- Identify areas of efficiency and provide recommendations on how to implement
- Ad hoc reporting as requested
10% Special Projects and Other Duties as Assigned
All required qualifications must be documented on application materials.
Required Qualifications:
- BA/BS plus at least four years of professional work experience or a combination of related education and work experience to equal eight years.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Familiarity with University systems such as PeopleSoft HRMS, EFS, UM Analytics, ECRT and EGMS
- Current UMN Certified Approver or ability to obtain certification within 12-months of employment
- Grant management and accounting experience
- In-depth knowledge of accounting principles for research and departmental accounts and University policy, procedures and guidelines.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively manage priorities, coordinate multiple assignments simultaneously, and meet deadlines
- Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively to financial and non-financial audiences, both verbally and in writing.
- Demonstrated customer service experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong technical, problem solving and process improvement skills
- Analytical skills, ability to gather, organize and present data in a meaningful way
- Experience managing finances for units with diverse funding sources to include: forecasting, analysis, budgeting, and complex reporting.
- Experience with federal granting agencies to include budgeting
