Job Overview/Summary: The Finance Specialist assists the finance team in accurately controlling and managing the implementation of accounting systems with a primary focus on supporting the IRC in NY & NJ. The Finance Specialist provides internal and external partners with timely, accurate and understandable financial information and reports.
Major Responsibilities:
- Ensure compliance with IRC’s accounting policies and procedures, as well as generally accepted accounting principles and donor requirements, for both the office and donors.
- Coordinate the implementation of IRC’s internal control procedures to safeguard the organization’s assets.
- Support daily financial activities:
- Prepare entries and approve invoice journals,
- Invoice and report on Accounts Receivables,
- Resolve journal entry discrepancies.
- Assist in month-end/year-end closing tasks:
- Prepare monthly billing with review of account transactions to ensure accurate coding and completeness,
- Produce variance analysis report,
- Reconcile accounts.
- Build and maintain a comprehensive understanding of donor policies, regulations, and procedures, and share this knowledge with the programs team.
- Other duties as assigned:
- Prepare and manage T&E documentation, process and post Prepayment cards, and handle staff and client payments, including direct assistance.
- Reconcile transactions involving Pcards and ensure accurate posting of expense reports and journals in Integra.
- Create and post journals for donated items received from donors, review and post them and procured journals, and reconcile the account.
- Prepare Invoice files by program, validate or correct grant codes, and process invoice entries for various expenses in Integra.
Job Requirements:
- Two (2) years of post-secondary education or equivalent experience working in accounting, finance, bookkeeping, or administrative support, preferably in a non-profit setting
- Strong commitment to ensuring the success of the IRC mission while adhering to the values of service, accountability, integrity, and equality as defined in the IRC Way
- Solid computer-based accounting skills, including spreadsheets and other financial related software programs
- Proficient in general office software programs like MS Word, Excel, email, and internet
- Proven track record to work as a team member in a cross-cultural environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively
- Ability to optimally work with remote teams through telephone, email, videoconference, and other methods of correspondence
- Fluency in English, written and spoken
