  • $95,755 – $100,089 per annum
  • SCHADS Level 5 (depending on on qualifications and experience)

MoneyMob Talkabout is a not-for-profit organisation providing a range of financial literacy, energy efficiency programs and community services in the Aṉangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands in northern South Australia, and in Alice Springs in the Northern Territory. About the Role

MoneyMob Talkabout is looking for a special financial counsellor, with a passion for working with and empowering First Nations people and communities. The successful applicant will possess exceptional counselling skills and an understanding that to achieve long-term positive change, humans need holistic support which goes beyond just addressing financial concerns.

Reporting to the Money Mob Talkabout (MMT) Financial Wellbeing Services Team Leader, the role will preferably be based in Alice Springs and undertake travel to the APY Lands for outreach. The travel schedule will see you in the office every other week.

The Financial Counsellor Caseworker works with people experiencing high levels of trauma, financial stress and exclusion. Taking a holistic case management approach, they will support and advocate in relation to financial issues as well as provide counselling and referrals for matters underlying financial stress. They will develop well thought out plans to help clients and their families to move towards financial resilience and wellbeing.

The Financial Counsellor Case Worker should have:

  • A Diploma of Financial Counselling OR Bachelor of Social Work, OR a Certificate IV in Community Services, or equivalent qualification and/or experience, and willingness to successfully complete a Diploma of Financial Counselling within one study cycle on the job.
  • A commitment to social justice, particularly in relation to advocating for economic empowerment and inclusion
  • A minimum of two years’ experience in community services work with complex clients (experience with First Nations clients and/or in a remote setting highly desirable).
  • Skills in all stages of client case planning and management and demonstrated excellent human counselling skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and a basic knowledge of the Australian legal system for effective advocacy.
  • Great organisational, administration and IT skills using cloud based systems.

IN YOUR FIRST SIX MONTHS YOU WILL:

  • Undertake training in our systems and processes.
  • Undertake cultural awareness training.
  • Travel to the APY Lands with the MMT team, familiarising yourself with our clients and our work.
  • Get to know your caseload of 15 clients across allocated communities.
  • Develop appropriate case plans and strategies for clients to assist with achievement of sustainable financial resilience goals
  • Contribute to the organisation of MMT events and collaboration with other services to provide great outcomes for our clients.
  • Membership of professional bodies and continuing professional development requirements maintained and met.

To Be Eligible:

You must have an unrestricted drivers’ licence and the right to work full-time in Australia

Employment will also be subject to a national police clearance, pre-employment medical check and psychological screening with satisfactory outcomes, Working with Children and Vulnerable People Checks.
