POSITION SUMMARY:
HIAS seeks a Financial Planning, Analysis & Data Assurance Specialist to support financial planning, analysis and data assurance across the organization. They will assist with the annual budgeting process, as well as forecasting, reporting, analysis and data management. Along with the Assistant Director, Financial Planning, Analysis & Data Assurance, they will advise and help build capacity within all divisions/offices in preparing and managing budgets. They will also assist in the completion of forecasts and financial analyses.
The Financial Planning, Analysis & Data Assurance (FPA&DA) team plays a vital role in supporting the Vice President, Budget & Fiscal Compliance during the annual organizational budgeting processes and prepares value-add financial analysis on expense-revenue forecasts and budget variances. The team (Assistant Director and Specialist) will develop and maintain responsive financial capacity-strengthening guidance, templates, tools and training materials. The team will support efforts to ensure various end-users have the tools they need to review and understand the financial position to help end-users make better business decisions. Further, the team will contribute to financial compliance with organization financial policy, GAAP and funders. The team is also responsible for the maintenance and improvement of HIAS’ budgeting and grants management software.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Supports the annual operating budget process for HIAS by designing and maintaining templates, consolidating budgets and providing analysis.
- Assists with developing calendars, work plans, templates and providing training for HQ and country office staff.
- Develops process documents in conjunction with relevant teams, to improve processes and address gaps.
- Supports in the development of high-quality deliverables (ie. spreadsheets, decks, memos and analysis) with little re-work required.
- Provides accurate reports for revenue projections, including both restricted and unrestricted funding, and progress on funding deliverables.
- Generates on demand/ad-hoc reporting.
- Assists in building organizational capacity in planning and budget, including guidance and training documents.
- Assists in the development of tools for analysis of projections and for forecasting to provide senior leadership with better information for decision making.
- Works closely with Finance & Accounting staff on issues relating to grant expenses and financial reporting, including accruals, cost share, time allocations and subawards.
- Partners with the regional Budget & Fiscal Compliance and Finance & Accounting staff to review monthly management reports, identifying risks, variances and corrective actions.
- Builds and maintains strong collaborative relationships with stakeholders in functions and teams across the business.
- Develops a strong command of data and systems that enable FPA&DA delivery (e.g., PowerBI) and is responsible for data validation and liaising with Finance & Accounting and the regional Budget & Fiscal Compliance directors for correction.
- Liaises with Development Operations team and Finance & Accounting team to ensure revenue is coded to the correct segments, funds and grant codes.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
- Undergraduate degree in Accounting, Business Administration or Finance required.
- 3-5 years of experience in managing budgets and analysis of projects or organization-wide expenditures.
- English fluency required; French and/or Spanish fluency preferred.
- Experience working with budget software programs NetSuite and NSPB preferred.
- Experience working with international programs, including travel/training in foreign countries, is highly desirable.
- Anticipates and responds promptly to internal customers’ needs and solicits feedback.
- Team player with excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to build effective relationships, interact at all levels and possesses strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Accurate and detail-oriented, with ability to see the big picture.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet time sensitive deadlines.
- Ability to communicate complex information clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- 10-15% travel to country offices and regional offices to conduct training and capacity building.
- Travel, to include travel to insecure operating environments, may be required.
