The Position
The Fire Department is a branch of the Public Safety Division and provides all typical emergency services, including fire suppression, hazardous materials responses, search and rescue, auto extrication, emergency medical services, prescribed burns for fire hazard reduction and resource management. The department has 14 wildland fire engines to provide service for 73 parks and responds to approximately 1,200 calls per year. The Fire Department works closely with our neighboring agencies in Alameda and Contra Costa counties and provides emergency response when called upon by CAL FIRE and the Office of Emergency Services.
Vacancy Situation: The Park District currently has one (1) vacancy located at East Bay Regional Park District Fire Station #1 in Tilden Regional Park, Orinda, CA. The hiring pools established as a result of this recruitment will be used to fill the current vacancies and additional vacancies that may occur during the one-year life of the hiring pools.
Firefighter II’s working with the District are also expected to serve as an Engine Driver/Operator.
Work Shifts: Ten (10) hour shifts, Four (4) days/week; shifts run Sun.-Wed. or Wed-Sat.
The FFII position responds to wild land fires, medical aids, search and rescue and all other emergencies. FFII functions as a driver/operator. We have over 125,000 acres of park district land and 73 parks to which we respond. We are a BLS non transport agency.

Wages, hours, and other terms of conditions of employment are covered in an Agreement between the Park District and Local 2428. The probationary period for this classification is nine (9) months.

Background Process: Due to its placement in the Public Safety Division, the candidates selected for this position will undergo a background investigation. Background investigators will contact references, friends, family, former and current employers and other contacts in order to verify information provided by the candidate in a Personal History Statement. In addition, investigators will perform a criminal records check; depending on the specific assignment, some positions may require a credit check and a driving record check. Candidates will also undergo a medical examination appropriate to the specific position. Information revealed during the background investigation may be grounds for rejection during the selection process.
