About the assignment

We’re looking for a Firefighting and Hazardous Material Trainer who can live and volunteer in Samoa for 12 months. Join the Australian Volunteers Program to contribute to sustainable development across Central and North Pacific Region.

About the Partner Organisation:

Samoa Fire and Emergency Services Authority (SFESA) is one of the Samoan government agencies which directly deals with all calls for emergencies and requests for assistance. This includes FIRE as one of its main roles. SFESA is also one of the First Responding Agencies to all calls that require assistance from the public when natural disaster strikes including man made disasters. SFESA supports the 911 Emergency Call number and deals with calls for either Police matters, or SFESA for Fire incidents and all other emergencies. Firefighting and Hazardous Material Training is one area that the organisation has very limited experience with and they would like to develop more skills and knowledge in this area. Providing the specialised training that our local staff need, a volunteer will help build the capacity of our local staff and will be of great assistance to the SFESA.

About the Position:

  • You will be lifting the standard of knowledge and up skilling local staff on all aspects of fire safety.
  • You’ll need 5 to 10 years’ experience as a Firefighter having held a minimum rank of Senior Station Officer.
  • You’ll gain an incredible opportunity to volunteer in a highly rewarding role that will see you improve staff capability in fire safety which will ultimately benefit all residents of Samoa.
  • Allowance: $2,027 – The monthly living allowance enables you to live a modest local lifestyle. Based on the cost of living in a particular country, it covers food, your daily commute, communication and other local costs. It is not set to enable you to meet financial commitments at home, such as a mortgage or a personal loan.

We actively support and encourage people of all backgrounds and abilities to volunteer internationally and aim to make the program as accessible and inclusive as possible. Find out more.
