As a Fish and Wildlife Technician (Fish Screening Technician), at the Rogue Watershed Screen Shop in Central Point, Oregon, you will implement the construction, installation, operation and maintenance of fish screens and fish passage devices in Southwestern Oregon. These duties include:

• Monitor the effectiveness of fish screens by periodic inspections.
• Perform minor maintenance (inspection, lubrication, cleaning) and major maintenance (fabrication, replacement and repair of screen components using skills such as welding and masonry) on fish screens.
• Operate heavy equipment (bulldozer, backhoe, excavator, boom truck, etc.)
• Constructs and fabricates fish screen systems and passage devices involving metal components, concrete forms and other associated parts and materials for installation at water diversions
• Respond to water user’s complaints regarding malfunctioning fish screens

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Minimum Qualifications

Fish and Wildlife Technician ($3705 – $5066):

An Associate’s degree in Fisheries Technology, Aquaculture, Aquarium Science, Wildlife Technology, or Agriculture; 

-OR-

Eighteen months of fisheries experience, care of livestock, agricultural research and experimentation, monitoring game or wildlife, or farming.

Equivalency Notes:

• A higher-level degree in Fisheries Science or a closely-related degree with at least 45 quarter (30 semester) hours of biological/ecological coursework will substitute for the Associate’s degree.

Fish and Wildlife Technician Entry Option ($3429 – $4207):

Minimum qualifications are not established for this classification (there are no minimum qualifications). Previous related experience is desirable.

Desired Attributes

• Experience with hand and power tools
• Maintenance and construction skills, particularly related to welding, metal and concrete work
• Experience operating heavy equipment (excavator/track hoe, forklift and backhoe)
• Experience writing progress or technical reports
• Experience with Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word
• Basic knowledge of salmon, steelhead and coastal cutthroat trout biology, life history and habitat requirements
• Experience with habitat assessment and restoration techniques

• The salary listed is the non-PERS qualifying salary range. If the successful candidate is PERS qualifying, the salary range will reflect an additional 6.95%.
