Federal Lands Fish Biologist, Fish and Wildlife Biologist 4

Salary: $5,501.00 – $7,400.00 Monthly

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the expert Fish Biology consultant and project manager for federal partner NEPA-related planning efforts, primarily with the use of the Good Neighbor Authority (GNA).
  • Conduct field activities including but not limited to stream sampling, backpack electrofishing, or snorkeling to identify species and distribution and habitat improvement.
  • Plans, implements, and monitors fisheries or aquatic habitat management activities for selected species to measure response to land management activities. Conducts complex research, resource assessments and prepares reports with recommendations as required.
  • Utilize contracting resources to expand the capacity of the program through public advertisement and bidding and processes.
  • Coordinate closely with federal, private, and tribal partner resource specialists. Planning activities include regular engagements in the field, virtual, or in-person meetings to ensure projects meet or exceed expectations and requirements, survey design and implementation to define the nature of forest restoration treatments, consultation with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife and National Marine Fisheries Services per Section 7 of the Endangered Species Act.
  • Communicate orally and in writing to provide formal and informal briefings to technical experts, management officials, environmental interest groups, and members of the public.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Fish and Wildlife Biology, Natural Resources, or related field;
    AND Four years of professional experience in natural resources, biological sciences, land use, urban environmental planning and/or management;
    OR an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Experience applying theory, policy, principles, and practices professionally in fisheries biology or aquatic habitat management research and application.
  • Experience applying theory, policy, principles, and practices professionally in fish and wildlife management or wildlife research preferably in the Northwestern United States required to conduct resource management on federal, state, and/or private lands.
  • Experience in ArcGIS and Microsoft Office Suites.
  • Knowledge of planning principles associated with
    • project management
    • forest land management planning
    • planning and stewardship techniques
    • environmental law, policies, and programs at the state and federal levels.
  • Experience Interpreting federal policy and procedures.
  • Delivers positive, responsive, cooperative, collaborative interaction with the public and other professionals (both inter-organizational and interdisciplinary).
