Job Summary

This position would administer the Fisheries Research Permit program which includes scientific collectors permits, and educational and fishing license waivers for the public. This position would also serve as the scientific communications leader for the Fisheries Research Unit by writing newsletters, editing technical reports, maintaining an internal intranet site, and working with Outreach staff to update the Fisheries Research external web page.

This position has a flexible work arrangement and may be eligible to telework on a full-time basis which is subject to change. If approved, the employee would be required to complete a telework agreement. This position will require reporting to the primary work location or field sites on a infrequent basis for fieldwork, training, and meetings

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Three years of experience in a fisheries or natural resource management field sufficient to understand fisheries science biology and sampling methods so that effective permit guidelines can be written.
  • *A Bachelor’s degree in a fisheries related area may substitute for 1 year of experience.
  • Extensive data management experience and advanced skills in creating data entry forms and producing data summaries and reports.
  • Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative analysis sufficient to evaluate the scientific and educational permit program.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills to prepare written reports and promote the work of the Fisheries Research Unit.
  • Ability to understand procedural and administrative guidelines so that permits are in compliance with all applicable statues, rules, and policies.
  • Excellent customer service skills to be able to work with permit applicants.
  • Conflict management skills sufficient to effectively address applicant concerns.
  • Ability to collaborate when needed with staff within the Division and across Divisions on permit applications.
  • Recognized ability to establish and maintain satisfactory working relationships.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a fisheries related area.
  • Experience with building and maintaining a relational database (e.g., using MS Access).

Additional Requirements

This position requires an unrestricted Class D Driver’s License with a clear driving record.
