Fisheries Programme Manager – Fisheries Charitable Trust

THE POSITION

We are seeking a dynamic professional with experience in marine conservation and/or fisheries
to play a critical role in development and delivery of our UK-focused Marine Programme, and
international Oceans Programme.

The postholder will administer an existing portfolio of marine conservation and fisheries
focused charitable projects and grants, as well as developing and delivering new project
workstreams to build and safeguard a prosperous and sustainable fishing industry, a healthy
marine environment, and to ensure the well-being of coastal communities.

Working as part of a small team, this role requires someone who is able to work independently,
has strong networking, presentation and interpersonal skills, and is experienced at developing
and leading multiple projects across a broad portfolio.

KEY TASKS

Under the direction of the Fisheries Director and Fish and Fisheries Committee, the successful
candidate will undertake:

Strategic Programme Planning:

  1. Take over, develop and implement a comprehensive strategic plan for the organisation’s
    UK-focused marine fisheries and international-focused oceans programme, aligning with the
    mission and goals of the charitable trust.

Project Management:

  1. Develop and oversee the planning, execution, and evaluation of marine related projects,
    ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and desired outcomes.
  2. Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to achieve project objectives and
    contribute to the Fishmongers’ Company’s wider projects.
  3. Coordinate research projects related to fisheries, biodiversity, conservation and ecosystem
    resilience.
  4. Facilitate and monitor project progress to track the impact of initiatives and adapt
    strategies as needed.

Grant Management:

  1. Identify funding and leveraging opportunities, and prepare compelling grant proposals to
    support marine programmes.
  2. Manage grants, ensuring compliance with reporting requirements and maintaining positive
    relationships with beneficiaries and other philanthropic organisations.

Policy

  1. Stay abreast of national and international marine policies and regulations.

Community Engagement, Collaboration and Networking:

  1. Work closely with conservation organisations, fishing communities and other relevant
    stakeholders to understand their needs, concerns, and aspirations.
  2. Facilitate stakeholder involvement in decision-making processes related to fisheries
    management and conservation.
  3. Collaborate with government agencies, NGOs, academic institutions, and other stakeholders
    to foster a collaborative approach to fisheries management and marine conservation.

Events

  1. Convene networking and educational meetings and events at the Fishmongers’ Hall to further
    knowledge, leverage funding and advance projects.
  2. Support the delivery of charity or Company events, occasionally working non-standard hours.

General Responsibilities:

  1. Flexibility. You may be asked from time to time to undertake other tasks, either on a
    temporary or a permanent basis, that is considered relevant to your job, or you may identify
    this yourself.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Qualifications and Experience

(Selection criteria A-F; In your application please include a paragraph demonstrating your
applicability for each criterion)

A. Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Fisheries, Marine Biology, Environmental
Science, or related field.

B. Proven experience in project or programme management, including project
planning, implementation, and evaluation.

C. Strong understanding of fisheries policies, marine conservation practices,
and community engagement.

D. Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal skills.

E. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.

F. Experience in the charitable, communications, business, or environmental
sectors.
