Weyerhaeuser is hiring an Aquatic/Fisheries Technician to join our Western Strategy & Technology Environmental Research and Operational Support Team. This team supports effective forest management practices that provide appropriate protection for aquatic resources. As an Aquatic Technician, you will contribute to fisheries and hydrologic operational support and research projects across Weyerhaeuser’s Western Timberlands. You will also assist other Environmental Research and Operational Support personnel as needed with Wildlife Sciences and Geology projects.
In addition to formal research support activities, you will be expected to stay abreast of current science, assist in developing management recommendations, and support operational technology transfer efforts across Timberlands in Oregon and Washington. Aquatic/Fisheries Technicians communicate and coordinate with coworkers across the company, including scientists, project leaders, government affairs, Corporate Sustainability, and key customers in Western Timberlands.
All team members are active participants in safety programs and should demonstrate a strong commitment to maintaining safe working conditions for themselves, coworkers, and contractors.
Essential Job Functions
- Conduct fish distribution surveys in support of Western Timberlands operations and long-term research projects
- Collect fish population, stream habitat, water quality, and hydrology data in support of research projects and long-term monitoring efforts
- Coordinate work with collaborators across Strategy & Technology disciplines, assist other groups/scientists within Operational Support and Environmental Research as needed
- Provide technical expertise in aquatic biology and environmental monitoring
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Fisheries, Hydrology, Aquatic Ecology, Forestry, Environmental Science, or other related natural resources field, with demonstrated strong academic achievement
- Demonstrated commitment and ability to work safely under adverse conditions, in inclement weather, and on steep, uneven, and heavily forested terrain
- Willing and able to carry backpacks and field gear (30-40 lbs.)
- Detail oriented and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent computer skills including MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Experience with GIS software, spatial analysis, data management, and map making
- Strong willingness to work effectively in a team environment and learn the overall business
- Demonstrated ability to think and work independently and participate in field efforts for collecting environmental survey data
- Enthusiastic, highly motivated, and eager to take on responsibilities
- Willing and able to travel up to 25% of the time throughout western Washington & Oregon (including overnight stays)
- Ability to work a flexible schedule and participate in long field days at remote locations.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to navigate safely on logging access roads.
- Authorized to work in the United States without Sponsorship
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen and background check
What We Offer
Compensation: This role is eligible for our annual merit-increase program, and we are targeting a salary range of $56,547 – $84,820 based on your level of skills, qualifications and experience. You will also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program, which offers a cash bonus targeting 5% of base pay. Potential plan funding may range from zero to two times that target.

Retirement: Employees are able to enroll in our company’s 401k plan, which includes a paid company match in addition to our annual contribution equal to 5% of your base salary.
Paid Time Off or Vacation: We provide eligible employees who are scheduled to work 25 hours or more per week with 3-weeks of paid vacation to use during your first year of employment. In addition, after being employed for six months, eligible employees begin to accrue vacation for future use. We also recognize eleven paid holidays per year, providing a total of 88 holiday hours
