The native nursery for The Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs, a sovereign entity, located in Prairie City, Oregon, is looking to hire a new Nursery Tech III. We are one of the few native nurseries located in eastern Oregon, and grow with the focus of repairing riparian zones for fish habitat. 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Scouting, identifying, and collecting seeds of native plants
  • Process, clean, and log seed to prepare for next year’s planting
  • Record data on spreadsheets and ArcGIS
  • Maintain or create SOPs for nursery practices
  • Maintain, propagate, and diagnose plant stock
  • Maintain nursery grounds including, but not limited to weeding, irrigation, and structures
  • Work with field crew on outplantings of plant stock

Physical Demands:

Applicant will be expected to work while standing, sitting, kneeling, and frequent bending and lifting for long periods with reasonable accommodations. Applicant should be able to lift/move objects of up to 50 lbs. Work will be conducted both indoors and outdoors, sometimes in inclement weather. Some weather clothing will be provided depending on the task.

Location:

This position takes place in a small city, hours from major city hubs. All field work takes place outside of cell range, however office space and nursery grounds do have service. While there are amenities lacking in the local area, all necessary amenities can be found and there are many places to hike, boat, fish, hunt, or whatever other outdoor activity is preferred.

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum of an Associates degree in a related field and six months of greenhouse, nursery, or plant propagation experience OR a minimum of three years’ experience in a greenhouse or nursery setting with a strong proficiency in knowledge/skills.
  • Plant identification proficiency and an understanding of tools to identify new plants
  • Experience with data entry and a strong understanding of Microsoft Office
  • A valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • A natural resource background, ideally in horticulture, botany, plant ecology, or closely related field
  • Ability to work on a team or independently for long periods of time
  • Ability to pass a drug test

Preferred Requirements:

  • An above average understanding of computer software
  • Ability to operate large equipment such as a tractor
  • Knowledge of growing operations and mass plant production
  • Seed cleaning and propagation experience
