The North Pacific Fishery Management Council is seeking a fishery management analyst or fishery biologist to lead the evaluation of environmental impacts of proposed changes to the management of some of the nation’s largest and most valuable fisheries. The Council is responsible for sustainable management of fisheries in the federal waters off Alaska, ranging from 3 to 200 miles offshore. Established under the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act, the regional Council system gives fishery managers the flexibility to use local-level input to develop management strategies appropriate for each region’s unique fisheries.
You will be joining the Council staff at a pivotal moment, as environmental change creates challenges and opportunities for the development of fishery management policies for Alaska fisheries and participants. Your experience in fisheries science, marine biology, marine policy, or other resource management field, will have a meaningful impact as you support decision-making by the Council based on best available science, and connecting directly to the on-the-water implementation of measures to conserve and sustain fisheries, fishermen and communities, marine resources, and ecosystems.

Salary and benefits: This is a non-federal GS-11/12/13-equivalent position, plus Alaska cost of living adjustments. Salary range $80,000 – $130,000/year, depending on experience. Benefits include:
Working conditions: This position is located at the Council office in Anchorage, Alaska. The daily work environment will include working at a desk in an office setting, with some opportunities for flexible scheduling and telework. You will occasionally be required to work outside normal business hours and on weekends or holidays preparing for or during meetings. Travel is required to participate in meetings and conferences. Council staff supports at minimum two Council meetings per year outside of Anchorage, approximately 9 days each. Some physical lifting required to support meeting setup.
