Fishery Management Specialist

Position Description:
The Mid-Atlantic Fishery Management Council (Council) is seeking candidates for the position of Fishery Management Specialist. This is an exciting, interdisciplinary position working at the intersection of both fisheries management and science. The Fishery Management Specialist will work with diverse teams of scientists, managers, commercial and recreational fishery stakeholders, and others to develop solutions to a number of challenges associated with fisheries in the Mid-Atlantic region. This position will involve coordination and participation in a wide range of programs and projects in support of the Council’s management goals.
The Council is responsible for the management of fisheries in federal waters in the Mid-Atlantic region (New York to North Carolina). The Council is committed to the stewardship of these fisheries, and associated ecosystems and fishing communities, through the collaborative development of effective, science-based fishery management plans and policies. Work Environment:
The Council office is located in Dover, Delaware, uniquely positioned with easy access to the Delaware beaches, Philadelphia, Annapolis, Baltimore, and Washington D.C. The daily work environment will include working at a desk in an office setting, with potential opportunities for flexible/hybrid work. This position requires travel to attend Council and other related meetings. Travel average 2-5 days per month, generally in the area from Massachusetts to North Carolina.

Salary & Benefits:
The starting salary range for this position is $70,000 – $82,000, depending on prior experience. The Council offers a comprehensive benefits package including health, dental and vision insurance, life insurance, annual (vacation) and sick leave, parental leave, and a 401K matching retirement program. Professional development is actively encouraged and supported by the Council. Relocation expenses may be authorized.
Terms of Employment:
Upon hiring, the selected applicant will enter an initial probationary period of one year during which the individual’s performance will be evaluated by the Executive Director. Unsatisfactory performance, and/or failure to demonstrate the skills required for this position, may result in termination of employment at the end of the probationary period.
