The purpose of the Food & Beverage Manager position is to manage the day-to-day running of the cafés and functions (6-day operation) within the village with emphasis on resident, customer, and team satisfaction. They will provide leadership, support, motivation, and development of the Food & Beverage team creating a positive environment that encourages ownership, accountability and delivers a quality food and service experience.
Key responsibilities will include (but not limited to):
- Assist with café and functions operations, acquiring, and maintaining a sound understanding of all menu items and ingredients, cultivating intuitive service and suggestive selling techniques, taking customer orders, delivering orders promptly and processing payments, when required to ensure that a consistently high standard of food and service is provided to customers.
- Manage and oversee the administration functions, including the rostering of FOH staff, ordering of FOH provisions for the café including disposables (packaging, coffee, beverages), stock-take, purchase requisitions, maintenance requests, keeping regular notation of daily events, and providing customer feedback to the Village Management Team.
- Ensure that customer requirements are met by processing customer orders accurately and on time, keeping the Village Manager informed of customer queries/complaints, quality and financial issues and actively cooperating to ensure all functions meet agreed expectations for quality, cost and timeliness.
- Lead the efficient functioning of the day-to-day Café operations by acquiring and maintaining a sound understanding of all Café and Function procedures, ensuring all staff adhere to systems and procedures, overseeing the completion of shift duties in a timely manner and addressing and responding to any customer queries/complaints or staff issues.
- Organise, plan and supervise events and/or Banquets enquiries within the Village with the support of the Residence services Manager, Facilities Manager, FOH and Kitchen Staff.
- Monitor and meet budget targets, ensuring all cash on site is handled responsibly, optimising the sales and profitability of the Café, and managing the Point of Sale (POS) system to ensure updates and accuracy to ensure the efficient financial functioning of the café.
- Ensure that safe work practices are carried out within the safety, health, hygiene, and cleanliness standards set and the relevant health authorities by maintaining Anglicare standards and operating procedures, including HACCP and WHS policies.
- Ensure that a consistently high standard of food and service is provided to customers by assisting with cafe and functions operations, acquiring, and maintaining a sound understanding of all menu items and ingredients, cultivating intuitive service and suggestive selling techniques, taking customer orders, delivering orders promptly and processing payments, when required.
Key Skills:
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire staff.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, fostering effective engagement with residents, staff, and external stakeholders.
- In-depth knowledge of food safety regulations, RSA guidelines, and compliance standards. Understanding of HACCP standards is an advantage.
- Demonstrated ability to develop menus, manage catering services, and uphold high-quality standards.
- Strong organisational and problem-solving abilities with meticulous attention to detail.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and work schedules.
- Develop and nurture relationships with residents, families, staff, and external partners to understand needs and gather feedback for continuous improvement.
- Computer literacy skills and proficiency with Microsoft Applications like Word and PowerPoint.
Qualifications and Experience Required:
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience managing a Café/Restaurant or function venue. Banquet experience is highly desirable.
- Food Safety Supervisor (FSS) Certificate
- A current Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) certificate
