FOOD POLICY ADVISER
TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Horizontal responsibilities:
- Monitoring, analysis and reporting on Food Policy, Food Law, Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) issues
- Identify issues of particular relevance to the members of the trade associations hosted or serviced by SACAR in the area of food safety and food policy, FRUCOM, APC, FEEDM and NDFTA in particular
- Provide technical and analytical support to these trade associations and be a contact point for enquiries
- Coordination of advocacy & lobbying activities in close cooperation with the Secretary general and members
- Support to internal projects and data collection & management.
- Tasks:
- EU policy monitoring and strategic analysis in the area of food law, food policy, nutrition, SPS issues.
- Key areas include, but are not limited to:
- Official controls and import regulations
- Pesticide Regulations (MLRs, authorizations, etc.)
- Contaminants (Mycotoxins, Heavy metals)
- Organic policy
- Attend and report on meetings of a technical nature
- Communication with EU officials, members and relevant stakeholders
- Preparation of content for newsletters and internal working group meetings
- Advising members on technical questions related to EU food policy and food law
- Management of internal projects on contaminants, pesticides, etc; data collection & management; overseeing the work of experts; updates on progress
- When required, assist with scientific publications’ and data review in the area of environmental sustainability of specific food products
Required profile:
1.Education & Experience:
- A University degree in agriculture, food science, food technology, chemistry, biology, environment or related areas. Do not apply if you do not meet this requirement.
- A minimum of 3 years of professional experience in EU Regulatory Affairs, ideally within or in relation to a European trade association
- Solid knowledge of and proven exposure to the EU institutional setting and EU policy-making process in the agri-food area
- Comfortable and experienced with EU technical legislation and scientific publications (e.g. EFSA reports)
- Familiarity with project management
- Full proficiency in IT tools (search, extranets, various databases, MS office)

- Ability to organize and prioritize work, multitask and meet strict timelines.
- Ability and willingness to work both within a multi-cultural team and autonomously with limited supervision
- Excellent written and spoken English; French, German and other EU languages an asset.
SACAR offers:
- A full-time work contract under Belgian law
- Salary according to experience plus an additional package of benefits.
