Context

As part of its country program for the period 2021-2025, UN Women aligns with Côte d’Ivoire’s priorities set out in the National Development Plan (PND) 2021-2025. This plan, which adopts an organized, proactive and inclusive approach, aims to position Côte d’Ivoire as a middle-income country by the end of the decade. The country’s ten-year strategy targets a structural transformation of its economy, aiming to accelerate the development of Ivorian society in an inclusive manner, by placing men and women at the heart of this process, as main actors and beneficiaries.

Since 2014, UN Women Côte d’Ivoire has supported the efforts of the Ivorian government, with particular emphasis on women’s economic empowerment. Working in close collaboration with the government, the private sector, NGOs, and various technical and financial partners, including the African Development Bank (AfDB), UN Women initiates and implements projects that promote the economic empowerment of women. These initiatives cover key sectors such as climate-resilient agriculture and women’s entrepreneurship.

In this context, the United Nations Volunteer (UNV) will work specifically on food security initiatives. By integrating gender perspectives, the UNV will strive to respond to the specific needs of women and girls in the face of increasing food insecurity. This approach is part of UN Women’s overall objective of promoting gender equality and supporting sustainable and inclusive development in Côte d’Ivoire.
