We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiatic and passionate Food Services Assistant / Cook to join our Maryknoll Therapeutic Community located within a 10 minute drive from Pakenham on a permanent basis working 38 hours per week.
The opportunity
A member of the Works & Operations Team, and guided by our ‘Food as Medicine’ philosophy, you will be assisting in the preparation and cooking of daily meals, supporting residents who are hands-on involved with the program. You will be contributing to an organisation that values respect, integrity and fosters connection and collaboration.
A day in the shoes of a Food Services Assistant / Cook will include:
- Preparation of seasonal meals in line with the Windana menu.
- Assisting and guiding residents during meal preparation and cooking with hands-on support and application
- Managing food quality and portion control with conscious approach to food waste.
- Plating of meals at the appropriate temperature, accurately and aesthetically pleasing for special events including community events or other formal occasions.
- Working collaboratively with members of the team and residents of the program.
- Maintaining high levels of hygiene and cleanliness.
The person we’re looking for will have:
- Demonstrated experience working as a Chef/Cook and preparing meals, preferably in a residential setting.
- Sound knowledge of the Food Safety Guide and regulations.
- A passion for cooking and creating hearty, healthy meals.
- Hands on leadership approach and ability to foster safe spaces, creativity and respect.
- Very good organisational skills, communication skills and the ability to work within a team.
- Trade qualification and/or extensive experience in a comparable role.
