Based in our Flagstaff. AZ office, the Forest Program Project Manager works directly with the business unit’s Forest Program Director to establish the Conservancy as a major conservation partner within the area of responsibility. Position analyses and develops tools and communication frameworks to address the Forest Program’s needs and engages community support for the Program’s conservation efforts.  The Forest Program Project Manager will develop and implement tactics from approved plans and organize and complete multiple tasks and activities.  Uses advanced knowledge of the systems and resources utilized by the forest team to provide programmatic support.

The Forest Program Project Manager will fill multiple project management responsibilities, primarily focusing on (1) Communications with emphasis on developing, implementing and managing communication and/or media tactics that facilitate comprehension, adoption and advancement of the Forest Program’s goals and objectives; and (2) providing project management and administrative support for other Forest Program projects such as grants, agreements, contracts, finance, procurement, facilities and reporting.

Essential functions include, but are not limited to:

Forest Program Communications (approx. 50%):

• Develop, implement and manage forest program communication strategies and plans – includes variety of communication and media tactics to communicate goals, objectives and mission of the Forest Program
• Identify communication and media needs and opportunities within purview
• Identify target audiences and cultivate media contacts on local, regional and national levels
• Facilitate on-going internal and external Forest Program communication to stakeholders/interested parties
• Research, write and distribute a wide variety of communication materials as directed in program marketing plans – including op-eds, news releases, fact sheets, web articles, and blog posts
• Assist in developing speeches, key messages and talking points
• Develop and foster relationships with internal and external partners

Other Forest Program Projects (approx. 40%)

• Maintain, track, and report on key data related to the scope and priorities of the Forest Program
• Perform analysis and research related to program activities
• Use advanced knowledge of the systems and resources utilized by the team to provide programmatic support and coordinate communications related to the resources
• Create program materials
• Complete activities with multiple variables, set realistic deadlines and manage timelines
• Provide guidance in satisfying requirements based on extensive knowledge of policies and procedures
• Adapt processes and implement recommended practices in order to improve effectiveness
• Coordinate logistics for program meetings and/or events
• Coordinate with stakeholders/interested parties for program success and may serve as the lead liaison with partners or vendors
• Communicate with staff across the Conservancy as well as with donors, volunteers, vendors, business partners, etc.
• Keep up-to-date on market trends and best practices in order to improve services
• Take on additional duties to enhance the work of the team, including, but not limited to, develop documentation, provide recommendations and targeted training related to the functional area of the team, and/or enhance the systems and tools used by the team

Other (approx. 10%)

• May direct or supervise other staff or volunteers
• May act in supervisor’s place
• Participate in Forest, Conservation, AZ Business Unit, Divisional, Regional and TNC-wide meetings, trainings, etc.
• Perform own employee administrative tasks in an accurate and timely manger; such as expense reports, timecards, performance self-evaluations, etc.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

• BA/BS degree and 5 years’ experience in communications, management and/or conservation practice or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience developing and managing complex or multiple projects, including staffing, workloads and finances under deadlines.
• Experience developing, implementing and managing communication goal-oriented processes and/or media tactics.
• Experience with current software technology such as the full suite of Microsoft applications: Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint; and databases.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Youth qualified (completion of internal training within initial 30 days of employment; annually thereafter).

SALARY INFORMATION

The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $61,400-$83,000 for annual base salary. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. Where a successful candidate’s actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate’s location, qualifications, specific skills, experience, and internal equity. Please note countries outside the USA would have a different pay range in the local currency based on the local labor market, and not tied to USA pay or ranges. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment.
