The Northwest Region is actively seeking a Road Maintenance Engineering Aide. The duty station for this position is in Sedro-Woolley, WA. This position will perform work throughout the Northwest Region in the North Cascades, primarily in Whatcom, Skagit, and Snohomish Counties. You can expect to enjoy working in a forest setting surrounded by beautiful scenery, including Mt Baker, Mt Pilchuck, and the Puget Sound.

The successful candidate will be in charge of contract compliance for forest road maintenance, assisting the Road Maintenance Engineer with forest road assessments and bridge maintenance, data entry, assisting the Heavy Equipment Crew, and assisting the Fish Passage Engineer. You will prepare and comply with road maintenance contracts. You will help evaluate forest roads for needed repairs, culvert replacement and installation, and proper ditch drainage. You will determine needed materials, quantities, and cost estimates for maintenance projects. You will maintain gate and culvert inventories. There will be opportunities to also work with the Fish Passage engineer on site surveys.

Responsibilities:

  • Detail-oriented project work and consultation
  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently

  • Creating and maintaining respectful working relationships
  • Managing forest road projects from initial scoping to closing out construction
  • Collaborating between different stakeholders in the Region in the process of putting together road projects

Required Qualifications: 

  • Associate degree in engineering technology or closely related field
    OR 2 years of applicable work experience;
    OR an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Experience with reading and interpreting plans and specifications for engineering projects.
  • Experience operating Microsoft Office software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access).
  • Experience operating a variety of hand tools, gas and electric-powered tools such as chainsaws, drills, roto hammers, diversion pumps, etc.
  • Experience towing trailer, with a one-ton truck.
