General Description
This is a seasonal position performing urban forestry and tree maintenance activities within the City of Middleton under the direct supervision of the Assistant Director for Field Services & City Forester/Conservancy Lead.
Job Functions
Participate in tree maintenance activities, including but not limited to planting, pruning, removing, inventory, insect & disease control as part of City Urban Forestry Program.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Working knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and equipment commonly used in forestry operations.
- Working knowledge of work hazards, proper personal protective gear (PPE), safety operations, and practices commonly used in forestry operations.
- Ability to assist with providing public information and meetings to address public awareness regarding Spongy moth and other forestry activities.
- Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
- Ability to work independently. Ability to assess and identify a variety of plants, trees, insects, and pests common to the urban forest areas of southern Wisconsin.
- Ability to safely operate, maintain & repair standard forestry equipment.
- Ability to understand and effectively carry out oral and written work instructions.
- Must be 18 years old, possess a valid driver’s license, possess steel-toe safety footwear, and be able to perform physical requirements of position.
Education, Training and Experience
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle and possession of a Wisconsin Motor Vehicle Operator’s License.
- Previous forestry, landscaping, park operations, and maintenance experience preferred.
- Knowledge of commonly used tools and equipment.
- Knowledge of operations and preventative maintenance procedures for safely operating forestry, landscaping or park vehicles, and equipment preferred.
