Forestry Officer (m-f-d) – based in Türkiye

We are looking for an engaged Forestry Officer who brings solid expertise and a passion for FSC’s mission, to work with us in a multinational environment.

FSC International is currently looking for a Forestry Officer that will formally represent FSC in Türkiye and lead activities and projects in close cooperation with relevant local stakeholders from the forestry sector, public, private, NGO sector, the FSC membership. The FSC Forestry Officer will be responsible for all forest related issues and act as a link between the Turkish Forestry Stakeholders, National Representation Türkiye and FSC International.

• Provide technical guidance and be the contact person for certificate holders and entities seeking FSC certification in Türkiye.
• Be the local technical expert of the relevant FSC standards such as the Forest Management Standard, Controlled Wood, etc.
• Engage with relevant stakeholders such as Forest Management Certificate Holders, Certification Bodies, etc. for the application of the relevant standards.
• Coordinate with the Policy and Standard Unit at FSC International and support the developments of the Interim Forest Stewardship Standard and the Risk Assessment Türkiye.
• Develop the Forestry Strategy for Türkiye.
• Develop a database of local forestry and certification experts.
• Impact assessment of FSC in forests in Türkiye and communicate this to target audiences.
• Coordinate the implementation of the FSC Pesticides Policy to national context.
• Represent FSC in relevant conferences and meetings.
• Attend and represent Türkiye in FSC International forestry forums including the Forest Management Community, annual staff meeting, sub regional meetings, webinars, etc.
• Engage in the development and revision of FSC policies, standards, and procedures for Forest Management certification, ensuring that Turkish stakeholders are involved at the appropriate times.
• Oversee the integrity of FM Certificate and engage and increase the capacity of CBs where necessary.

Education and Training:

• University degree in forestry or equivalent combination of education/vocational training and work experience relevant for the roles and responsibilities of this function.
  
  

Working Experience, Style and Skills: 

• At least 3 years of relevant professional experience.
• Sound understanding of the scope of FSC’s programs and activities, policies, and standards.
• A practical understanding of forest management in Türkiye.
• Understanding of commercial forest product value chain needs and market forces.
• Good time management skills: ability to perform well while handling simultaneously several functions.
• Ability to work independently and to achieve agreed objectives with little supervision.
• Service-oriented attitude to work, as well as a strong sense for diligence and accuracy.

Language & Communication Skills:

• Fluency in spoken and written English is essential.
• Fluency in Turkish (spoken and written).
• Exemplary verbal and written communication skills.
• Respectful and friendly communication with internal and external stakeholders.
• Active-listening skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to facilitate interactive discussions.
• Proven ability to communicate and engage with a diverse range of people.
• Ability to establish and maintain positive interpersonal relations.

  
Digital Skills:

• Good skills in the use of standard software packages (MS Office).

• Play an active role in the FSC global community of 400+ forest stewards who come together in-person at least once a year.

• Location: Türkiye, preferably Ankara (remote work possible).
• Working Hours: Full time – 40 hours per week.
• Duration of Agreement: 2 years (extension possible).
• Starting Date: As soon as possible.
• Travel: Frequent national travel and occasional international travel is required.
