Join the Western Shasta Resource Conservation District as a Forestry Summer Intern! Work alongside registered professional foresters and gain experience conducting forest inventory surveys, collecting field data, mapping to help prepare forest management plans for private non-industrial landowners. With flexible start and end dates between Mid May and Mid September, we are looking for four students or recent graduates with a background in forestry, natural resources, or another relevant field. Interns must be able to commit to at least 6 weeks within this time frame, working around 40 hours per week.

About Us 

The mission of the Western Shasta Resource Conservation District (WSRCD) is to collaborate with willing landowners, government agencies and other organizations to facilitate the conservation or restoration of western Shasta County’s natural resources. The Western Shasta RCD a special district, involved in habitat restoration projects, wildfire mitigation, invasive species removal, site monitoring, and community outreach and education. Projects can vary year to year based on grant funding.

Key Responsibilities 

Forestry Summer Interns will:

• Assist our Registered Professional Foresters with forest inventory work on private property in western Shasta County.
• Conduct field timber inventory
• Properly use field inventory tolls
• Collect and record data
• Calculate and summarize data using excel and ArcGIS

Required Qualifications 

• Must be a student or recent graduate with a background in forestry, natural resources, or a related degree
• Strong interest in working outdoors and ability to work in strenuous conditions
• Valid California Driver’s License
• Minimum commitment of 6 weeks between Mid May and Mid September

Pay 

• California Minimum Wage: $16.50/hr
• Housing is unable to be provided

Work Schedule and Location 

• Office located in Anderson, CA
• Fieldwork occurring throughout Shasta County
• Minimum of a six week commitment between Mid May and Mid September with flexible start and end dates
